Women in Cleantech and Sustainability (WCS) also has a LinkedIn group page (type our full name in the search box at top to pull up our group as well). WCS fosters an influential network of professionals to further the roles of women in growing the green economy and making a positive impact on the environment. At many cleantech and sustainability events finding more than a handful of women can be difficult. WC&S brings women together for fun networking and education around the most cutting edge topics in our industry. We are professional women working in the clean technology and sustainability, from the entry level to the executive level. We meet once a month to network and learn the latest developments in the green movement from speakers and panelists. Topics covered include: renewable energy (solar, wind biofuel, etc), water, smart grid, biomass, carbon reduction, sustainable transportation, energy efficiency, sustainability, green buildings and many other technologies that aim to make our world a cleaner, more sustainable place.

Why is it that only 5% of engineers in Pakistan are women? 🤔 Firstly, we must address cultural and societal biases that dissuade women from entering the engineering fields. These biases often assume that women are less capable in technical roles or that engineering is not a suitable career path for them. How can we positively change these misconceptions and promote inclusivity? The journey starts with "You" 🌟 The presence of women in engineering not only enhances gender diversity but also brings unique perspectives and benefits that positively impact male engineers and the field as a whole. Women often contribute different problem-solving approaches and communication styles, fostering more innovative solutions and improved team dynamics. Furthermore, having female colleagues encourages empathy, creativity, and mutual respect among male engineers, creating a more inclusive and supportive work environment. To ensure women engineers feel safe and valued in the workplace, here are some specific actions that can be incorporated into workplace codes of conduct: - Ensure equitable access to resources, opportunities, and career development for all engineers regardless of gender. - Establish mentoring programs that pair senior engineers with female engineers to provide guidance and support. - One effective strategy for female engineers in the workplace could involve ensuring diverse perspectives are integrated into decision-making processes. While acknowledging the challenges of limited job opportunities, women/men engineers can still leverage their skills for economic growth by: - Engaging in entrepreneurial ventures that address local engineering needs. - Collaborating with NGOs or government initiatives focused on infrastructure development. - Offering consultancy services in emerging fields like renewable energy and sustainable technology. - Critical areas where women's participation in engineering is highly demanded in Pakistan include renewable energy, water management, sustainable infrastructure development, and healthcare technology. These fields benefit immensely from diverse perspectives and innovative solutions that women engineers bring to the table. 🌍💧🏥 Achieving gender equality in engineering requires concerted efforts. Whether it's mentoring aspiring female engineers, advocating for inclusive policies, or challenging stereotypes, every action contributes to creating a more equitable environment. 🤝 I'm excited to share that I am now part of the UN Women 30 for 2030, a leader on advancing gender equality in engineering and technology in Pakistan.
