I’ll admit, we’re not doing enough to help female founders. I recently saw Anna-Sophie Hartvigsen, co-founder of Female Invest, announce their Series A. And that whilst this was happening, one of the founding team was giving birth. They actually signed the term sheet the day before she was due. However, it’s a shame to hear they felt terrified. And that’s because of the prejudice and expectations from society, who expect female founders to fail when they start a family. As a male founder, I believe we have a huge role to play in ensuring we change this dangerous, careless narrative. There’s no doubt balancing motherhood with running a startup is far from easy. But don’t we all have our challenges as founders? #FemaleFounders #Startups #Founders

In today's episode of Life from Liz's Desk... Ever wonder why you've historically seen so few women wearing hard hats and working in "dirty" construction? Would you be interested in meeting and hearing from trailblazers working to elevate and promote innovation in construction? Then you're in luck! On the next episode of the Looking Glass podcast, our distinguished panel of accomplished leaders and entrepreneurs will discuss current challenges and what parts we can play to change gender perceptions and improve the state of the industry. I want to sincerely thank Dana Worthington, Maria Telleria, Alizabeth Aramowicz Smith, and Tina Wolff for agreeing to participate in this important discourse. If you'd like to meet the panel of "Women Building Tomorrow", check out our website here: https://lnkd.in/exFwGv6j This episode will be available for listening on October 11th. Stay in the know and keep watching this space... #womeninstem #construction #robotics #diversityandinclusion #themedentertainment

This is one of the reasons why we started #womeninconstructiontech. With only 2% of funding going to women, there's clearly a huge untapped potential in the market. We have amazing women founders driving innovation in #constructiontechnology. While we're proud of those who've successfully raised capital, we're eager to see many more secure funding in the future.

Are You Going To Tell Her, or Shall I? Because unless we do something, one of us will have to. Imagine a bedtime story titled “Why Mommy Can’t Get Funding.” A children’s book explaining to your daughter, or granddaughter, why having a stellar idea and the work-ethic of an Ox won’t be enough to succeed. Mommy has a world-changing idea. No matter how brilliant she is, the odds are stacked against her before she even steps into the pitch room. She’s built it, bootstrapped it, and believes in it with every fibre of her being. But when she walks into the room, her business isn’t judged by its potential impact or profitability, the focus shifts disproportionately to the risks she poses - will she be able to balance work and family (as well as a man); will she be able to manage the scale up (as well as a man)? I am referring to the research reported in Harvard Business Review which surfaced a shift in investor focus from questions about the opportunity when talking to male founders to questions about risk when talking to female founders. We badly need a drip feed monitor to see how this metric has changed since the report, and continues to change over time. The story ends with Mommy being told to ‘come back when you’re further along.’ Of course it does. Now, if you think this only affects one generation, think again. This is the world we are equipping for our daughters and their daughters. If we don’t fix this problem that we inherited, we’ll be handing on a legacy of sub-optimal economics. The gap between where the economy needs to be to sustain us, and where it actually is, will widen. A huge slug of missed opportunity to boost the economic growth and hold taxation. So, will you tell her it’s not her fault, it’s ours. Yours and mine. For not acting fast enough. For not acting at all. Or are we going to do something about it? Be responsible guardians. Act now. Together. Oh, and before you ask…I have 4 amazing sons. I would have loved a daughter but I don’t have one. I’m raising this issue to help your daughters. #femalefounders #innovation #startups #funding #venturecapital #breakthebias #founders --- Let's Fund More Women Invest in Women Taskforce Fundfast investHER-UK ProspHER Female Founder Finance Female Founders Rise Business and Babies TechFoundHer Female Invest UK Business Angels Association UK Business Angels Network British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) Jennifer Hoffman Cindy Gallop Gwen Myslinski Máirín Murray Jamie Harford Alex Dunsdon Dan Bowyer Dr Lorna Treanor FRSA Sanjay Lobo MBE👫🌍 Francois Mazoudier Mark Shepherd Charlie de Rusett Kiran Mehta Ranvir Singh MBA, LLM, MA(Oxon) Oliver Wheatley Rob Moffat Christian Dorffer Julian Buhagiar Marco Scotti .
