We're back with a new #CommunitySpotlight. Meet Virgínia Camueje, one of the Women+ in Geospatial community members. Virginia Camueje is a hybrid #GIS Analyst at the Geometric Department of Progest Lda. She is incredibly passionate about using geospatial projects to contribute to humanitarian aid and emergency responses, making a real impact on saving lives. Currently, Virginia is diving deep into #LiDAR airborne data, using a meticulous approach to generate digital models for highways, railways, and powerline projects. She is monitoring changes through tracking data trends to create a sustainable impact on society. One of her proudest achievements as a GIS Analyst involved spearheading a project to bring solar energy to remote locations, closing in a whopping 7000 hectares of land, and processing LiDAR and RGB data simultaneously. This year, Virginia participated in The Geovation Geospatial Innovation Awards in the category of life protection and developed a web app using her development skills. The multifaceted application, integrated with Google Maps, can link victims of accidental fire outbreaks to firefighters. The dashboard for firefighters also shows the fire location, including the nearest tanks and reservoir capacity. Virginia’s goal with this app is to reduce the time firefighters spend searching for water during rescue operations in dangerous scenarios. Despite her deep attachment to Angola, Virginia is preparing to move to Portugal for educational development. She actively seeks opportunities, preferably in Europe, to further her geospatial career and make a meaningful impact. Her advice for those looking to join the geospatial field? “Make some goals, do a list with a path that you would like to follow with the abilities that you would like to develop. Have someone to inspire you.” #WiGprofile #Geospatial #CommunitySpotlight

🌿 Use of NBR and dNBR for Determination of Burnt Areas in Nepal 🌿 We are proud to present our latest legacy project: “Use of NBR and dNBR for Determination of Burnt Areas in Nepal,” authored by Pragati Dhakal Merve Aysu Arslan, and Sadikshya Adhikari. This project employs the Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR) and the Differential Normalized Burn Ratio (dNBR), two key indices in remote sensing, to identify burnt areas in Nepal using Google Earth Engine. For more details, check out the project here. https://lnkd.in/eJKs4TNy Let’s continue to leverage technology for understanding and addressing environmental challenges! #RemoteSensing #Nepal #NBR #dNBR #2023Cohort #WomenInGeospatial #MentorshipMonday
