Back in the early days, WOWE was making an impact. I’m so impressed by what WRISE is doing today. When I reflect on my early days in renewable energy (longer than I’d like to recollect), I think of the initial efforts to build a network for women. WOWE, or Women of Wind Energy, as it was called, was an early driver. Amazing women like Deborah Reyes, Laura Jean Curley, and Lisa Carp were among the earliest pioneers at the helm in San Diego. They were conducting programs and promoting the advancement of women in renewables 20 years ago. San Diego has carried that legacy forward. Times have rolled on, and now we have Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (WRISE), specifically the WRISE San Diego Chapter. The women in that group are amazing. The caliber of women with their experience, professionalism, and training is hard to come by. It's a combination of people from engineers to lawyers, developers to people in business development. The group is representative of the industry in terms of their skill set and companies. It reminds me of the amazing talent that we have in renewables and the fantastic, talented women who are committed to establishing change. These are already superwomen, and the San Diego WRISE Chapter is all volunteer. They're all busy working women, mothers, wives, and colleagues, and doing tons of different things. But they're committed to helping other women. If you aren’t a part of a group like this, I recommend finding one. This type of networking can do so much for you. They inspire me. What groups are you a part of, and how do they help you?
