But is it a silver bullet? - Of course not! 💶 MVs use storage and compute—keep an eye on it: 🐌 Use MVs only for slow, complex queries. 📑 MVs auto-refresh when data updates. Choose tables that don’t change constantly. 🔍 If it's not being queried, drop it. MVs speed up your Snowflake performance, but use them wisely. 😇 𝑰𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒈 𝑻𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒗𝒔. 𝑬𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑻𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒇𝒍𝒂𝒌𝒆: 𝒅𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒔 😈 Both Iceberg Tables and External Tables in Snowflake allow for efficient data querying, while data is stored externally. So what is the difference❓ 🔹 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬: If you require flexibility with ACID compliance, which ensures data integrity during updates, inserts, deletes, and upserts, Iceberg Tables are ideal for dynamic datasets. They offer versioning and transactional consistency through the Snowflake-managed catalog. 🔹 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬: For large, static datasets, External Tables are a great choice, providing read-only access to data stored externally (e.g., in S3). While they enable fast querying without the need for data migration, they do not support updates or inserts, making them less flexible for evolving data. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: When deciding, think about the nature of your datasets: Do you need to make frequent updates, or are you working with mostly static data? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
