Elections aren't the only way change happens. Our commitment to advocacy and creating a just legal system remains unwavering. Our work is far from done. We stand ready to champion policies that advance and protect the rights of women lawyers and promote equity in our profession. Our advocacy efforts include filing amicus briefs on critical issues, supporting legislative changes, and ensuring that the voices of women are heard and represented. We believe in the power of collective action and the impact we can make together. Let’s keep driving change and supporting one another. We invite everyone—women, men, and nonbinary folks alike—to join us in ensuring our advocacy efforts resonate beyond the polls and create a lasting difference in the legal landscape. I think the maxium case load I had at one point was 175 felonies at one time for one person, that's a lot." Don't miss WBA member Paulette M. Pagán speaking about her life as a criminal defense partner, why she shifted from her dream of becoming a prosecutor to the defense side, and why she shares about it all on TikTok. Resilient leaders foster environments that focus on growth and learning, not shame. On October 16th, we hosted Dr. Nicole Moore, PsyD of Vital Therapy DC for our latest Got Skills leadership session on Building Resilience. Leaders across the DMV explored how to embrace a growth mindset in a profession that often pressures people into practicing perfectionism. Key takeaways: * Resilience is the ability to overcome adversity. * In law, a key challenge is perfectionism—the belief that by looking perfect, acting perfect, and leading perfect lives, we can avoid blame and shame. * Striving for perfection often leads to feelings of shame when we fall short. * Building shame resilience means seeing your own mistakes and imperfections as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than indictments on your character or abilities. * Leaders must model the behaviors they want to instill in others. Today we honor the legacy of Judge Joyce Hens Green, a legal giant whose impact on the legal world was profound who recently passed. Judge Green played a pivotal role in so many high-profile cases but she's remembered by our sisterhood as the WBA president successfully advocated to racially integrate our organization. She also mentored countless women attorneys and served as a true friend. See some of her fellow past presidents' reflections here. Her loss is deeply felt, leaving behind a void in the legal community. Rest in power, Judge Green. #promotingwomenlawyers #leadership #racialequity #RIP

The Biden-Harris Administration has proposed a federal rule that would expand access to birth control under the Affordable Care Act. The new rule would allow OTC birth control to be covered without a prescription and without cost sharing, and would require insurance plans to share information about this coverage with consumers. The rule also requires plans to cover all contraceptive methods without a therapeutic equivalent, helping more people obtain their preferred method without out-of-pocket costs. For more information on the proposed rule and how you can get involved, please check out the work of WBA collaborator Free the Pill: https://lnkd.in/eBevY-Sg #FreeThePill
