📣 CHAIR ANNOUNCEMENT We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Emma Lamont, Senior Marketing Manager at Energy Voice, as the new Chair of WENA. Emma brings over 15 years of experience in the creative industries to her role at Energy Voice. Over the past year, Emma has spearheaded the Women in New Energy (WiNE) networking initiative, fostering mentorship, collaboration, and networking among women and their allies in the energy sector. Emma is a firm believer in the potential of women as future leaders of the UK's energy industry. She has been deeply inspired by the knowledge and passion of the women she has met since joining the sector. Additionally, she collaborates with energy leaders through Energy Voice's sister brand, EFWD, a platform dedicated to advancing the energy transition. Currently residing in Edinburgh, Scotland, Emma is eager to engage with networks across the UK. She encourages you to reach out and connect! With this news, we also bid a fond farewell to our previous Chair, Rachael Mills OBE, who has led the initiative from 2023 - 2024. 🎤 Last highlights from the Women's Energy Network Alliance conf! Couldn’t be more prouder to support Mike Smith 🙌 last week talk about co-founding the Men as Allies network in bp. His wise counsel? 💥 Smash those echo chambers. 🤝 For men find other men, you can’t do it alone and more powerful together. I admired Gillian Nobles honesty about the DEI journey they are on (btw that we are ALL on) and DEI driving some of the attrition we are seeing in the industry. Wakey wakey 😴this is real folks. Gillian’s thoughtful point that today in such times of change it’s hard to know who is the best person for the job - we prob know who is not the right person. In the past hipo’s have risen up the ranks carefully managed but they may not be the right person for the job today. Her last piece of advice is to find an ally that’s not the usual voice. Mavis Anagboso vulnerably shared her path to current success from 3 jobs at a time cleaner/call center to Exec 💪 When I asked the panel how to move away from DEI being a side hustle, Mavis pointed out that DEI matters need senior leader ownership, and tied to their scorecards. Mavis made me chuckle, with the comment we need to listen & hear from the frontline and not just to the “Fancy P’s, not the EVPs, SVPs, VPs” 😂 Lastly her wisdom is to “Use your voice, there is nothing more powerful than lived experiences.” Rachael Mills moderated like a queen 👸 I walked away with lots of ideas on how to listen more, ask the right question at the right time and eloquently share my reflections as a moderator. #WENAconf #PfW #POWERfulwomen #leadership #talent #dei #inclusion #womeninenergy Photo credits: Digital Triangle Creative

🔮 ‘My career journey has not been linear, it has not been planned’ 🔮 These were the comforting words of Deirdre Michie OBE, Chair of Scottish Water at yesterday’s Women's Energy Network Alliance conference. There were lots of good take aways from the event, but this one stuck with me. It felt a good reminder as I left Gren Energy end of last week and will now be looking for my next move. Redundancies are never fun, but you probably cannot go through a whole career where you grab chances and take risks, without having to face some – so here we are! Yesterday’s conference was a great way to kick-off my summer of connecting with the industry that I am so passionate about and the many opportunities I know are out there. I love change and a new challenge, so part of me is weirdly excited about this and seeing where my career will take me next. One thing is for sure, the net zero challenges are very real and will require new ways of bringing in capital, organisations and people to delivery what is needed. So I’m excited to see where I will get ‘stuck in’ next. 👨👩👧👧 BUT first I will be enjoying the next 6 weeks with my (teacher) husband and two girls, having all the time in the world and no deadlines. You have to look at the upside in this sort of situation! ☕ So, lovely network, get in touch.
