It’s been a busy week. It was so nice to see some old friends! Thank you to our sponsors (who can be found here: (https://lnkd.in/eMwJyfRD) and to everyone who came out to celebrate, hear about, and support the work Women's Sustainable Development Initiative has been focused on for the past few years. As Jill Ferrari (She/Her) says, Women Build Communities. The more support we have, the more women we can support and the more communities they can help build. I’m looking forward to several ground breakings and ribbon cuttings in the coming months 😊

Sharing! Yesterday was absolutely amazing! A room full of humans all on one accord ……..supporting Women’s Sustainable Development Initiative (WSDI) and our mission to provide support and capital to emerging women developers. What exactly does that look like? Listening, encouraging the women we mentor. Looking for opportunities, resources and funding to support their projects. Partnering with people and organizations with like missions. Juggling home life, work life, morning meetings, taking phone calls throughout the day, virtual WSDI Community meetings, mentoring WE Build cohorts (in partnership with Cinnaire) all to create a new generation of women real estate developers. I know first hand it’s not easy to connect the dots, to find resources, people and capital for your real estate project . Even when you have the equity, experience and site control, I know what it’s like to hear NO over and over again. So, WSDI is here to support, mentor the women developers we serve by helping them push though every NO until they get to their YES and believe for themselves : YES, I am a developer. YES, I am capable. YES. My project will be successful and create generational wealth for me and my family. You can find out more about WSDI and how you can support the mission and the vision by going to our website, www.womendevelop.org Shout outs to out our MC, the amazing Danielle North! Our guest speaker, Stacy Fox, Roxbury Group. And, everyone that stopped by and supported the event. Thank you Karen A.D. Friday the 13th is usually an "unlucky" day where bad things happen, but on this past Friday, September the 13th, Cinnaire Community Connection and Women's Sustainable Development Initiative, we hosted this month's WE Build session and it was a very lucky day for us because Karen A.D. Burton was the presenter! Karen A.D. Burton spoke about construction management principles and practices. She also discussed project delivery methods and understanding different project delivery approaches and software. After Karen presented, the cohort members worked on their elevator pitches. We started at 30 seconds, then 45 seconds and finally one minute. It's amazing how much you can fit in an elevator pitch once you practice it a few times. We discussed the cohort members' wins and challenges for the past month. ShaWanna Gajewski, Tanya Clark, and Karen Hunter, MBA & MS shared a common win as they were awarded with the Cinnaire Community Connection Recoverable Grant for pre-development activities for their developments! The rest of the day was spent working on their developments. It has been a pleasure seeing how far the cohort has come since January! A big thank you to Women's Sustainable Development Initiative for being amazing partners. We missed you all this session Lisa Berden, Brinda Devine, Rachele Downs, and Jill Ferrari (She/Her). I can't believe that we only have two sessions left. I want to thank Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI) for sharing their space with Cinnaire every month. And of course I have to thank my colleague Jocelyn Moss for her support! #detroit #michigan #cinnaire #wsdi #womendevelopers #realestate #realestatedevelopers #detroitdevelopers #michigandevelopers

Many women in commercial real estate struggle to find a seat at the table. The table where decisions get made about what their companies build, or what gets built in their own communities. This struggle is much harder for women of color. When we set out to launch the Women's Sustainable Development Initiative, a 501(c)(3), our goal was to create a new table. A table for emerging women commercial real estate developers where every voice is heard, everyone is equal and everyone is celebrated. Last week, we hosted our first annual celebration. It was filled with joy as we heard testimony from emerging developers and seasoned developer Stacy Fox of the Roxbury Group. This table is growing. At the event, we launched 100WomeninCRE, our goal to inspire 100 Women in Commercial Real Estate to donate to WSDI this year. Please consider donating and help us build this inclusive, empowering table to serve as many women as possible. Because women don’t just build, they build communities. Karen A.D.
