Great article featuring Georgina Williams, PhD. Georgie spent over a year supporting Women Talking Fire as our Treasurer and we're grateful to get a mention in her article and hear her views on what we're doing. https://lnkd.in/eR9KGQgp
Read the latest FPE Magazine member profile featuring Georgina Williams, PhD. “Georgina Williams, PhD, is a senior fire engineer for Maze Fire Consulting in Manchester, England. Previously, she was a principal fire engineer for Hydrock and a consultant for Warringtonfire. Williams is on the committee for the SFPE UK Chapter, for which she helps organize in-person seminars in Manchester. She is also on the committee for Women Talking Fire, an independent group providing community, networking, and continuing professional development events for women and allies in the industry in the United Kingdom. Running for just over a year, the organization already delivered a technical conference with nearly all female speakers, ‘which is definitely not the norm in fire industry conferences,’ she notes…” Read more about Georgina here: https://ow.ly/TJ7j50TQaOF #FPEMagazine #SFPEMemberProfile

At FIREX 2023, Women Talking Fire ran a session on male allyship encouraging men to speak up against inappropriate comments. Yesterday at UK Construction Week, I listened to a panellist speak about how her electrician son is thinking of leaving the construction industry because of the misogyny and derogatory and belittling language about women used in the site tea hut. This video by Matt Britton and his son Arthur is a great watch and a fantastic resource for EDI professionals and those keen to promote this topic. #bethechange #genderequity https://lnkd.in/e4ePubfK

It takes courage to be a male ally. In this film is my brother Matt - who’s written and directed this powerful piece - along with his son Arthur. He started with listening. Asking questions. Being curious. Researching. Interviewing women and men. He’s turned good intention into positive action with this film. As a woman I recognise and value the support of men like this, like you. You inspire me. You empower me. You help others stand up and be bold. Even the smallest amounts of allyship help break down stereotypes. Not just for women but for men too. I don’t ask for much. But I do ask for an end to violence against girls and women. If you do one thing today, please watch and share this film. Link also in the comments. Thank you 🙏 Credits: written, directed and spoken by Matt Britton. Filmed by Caleb French pressred.org
