    🚨 April HR Legal Updates 🚨 While employment law is always in motion, there have been some major updates this month that you'll want to pay attention to: 1. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Bans Non-Compete Agreements 📜 In a landmark decision, the FTC has officially banned the use of non-compete agreements in employment contracts across various industries. The ban applies to all non-compete agreements, regardless of industry or job level, including entry-level positions. While the new rule does not go into effect until late August, employers will want to be preparing now for how to handle within their businesses. 2. Department of Labor (DOL) Increases Minimum Wage 💰 On April 26, 2024, the U.S. DOL published the much-anticipated final rule that will increase the minimum salary for many exempt employees. Under the new rule, exempt executive, administrative, and professional employees must be paid at least: $844 per week ($43,888 per year) beginning on July 1, 2024 $1,128 per week ($58,656 per year) beginning on January 1, 2025 3. Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) – Final Regulations Published 🤰 The final rule for the PWFA, which applies to employers with 15 or more employees, has been published and takes effect June 18, 2024. The rules touch on accommodations for pregnant employees that are presumed to be reasonable, unreasonable documentation requests, and more.
