Successful smallholder farmers and healthy livestock are essential to achieving food security in many rural communities. A few weeks ago, World Food Program USA President and CEO Barron Segar had the honor of joining Zoetis Foundation President Jeannette Ferran Astorga for a fireside chat to discuss our unique partnership providing financial assistance and veterinary services in Ethiopia and Kenya. Thank you for your collaboration and dedication as we better understand the intersections of animal health, global food security, sustainable livestock, and thriving farmer livelihoods.

🇺🇸 Today marks 70 years since the enactment of Food for Peace! In 2022 alone, the U.S. provided nearly 4 billion pounds of food to over 58 million people through this critical program. World Food Program USA is proud to partner with American farmers, mariners, non-profit organizations and others that provide essential lifesaving food, including wheat, rice, peas and lentils, to those in need around the world. Now, more than ever, Congress needs to support and fully fund the Food for Peace program. Learn more about Food For Peace and the World Food Programme's work here. ➡️ https://bit.ly/45VUEfP

📍#HurricaneBeryl Update: In an unprecedented start to the 2024 hurricane season, Beryl has wreaked havoc across the Caribbean causing destruction of homes, buildings, roads and livelihoods. “We’ve never seen a Category 4 hurricane in the Caribbean in June and never before a Category 5 until much later in the year,” said Brian Bogart, Country Director designate at WFP’s Multi-Country Caribbean office. With shelters filled across the island and nearly half a million without power in Jamaica, the World Food Programme is on the ground working closely with government authorities and partners to respond as quickly and effectively as possible. Conflict is the #️⃣1️⃣ driver of hunger and it affects millions of people around the world, including little ones like 15-month-old Aisha from Sudan. ⬇️ From Gaza to Sudan to Ukraine to Haiti, violence is causing food insecurity to spread at an alarming rate. So far from January to March, the World Food Programme has reached 64 MILLION people with assistance, including those affected by conflict and aims to reach 139 million by the end of the year.
