A groundbreaking assessment in Frontiers in Conservation Science provides the first global analysis of Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) and their role in achieving the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework Target 3. The study reveals key governance and management statistics that differ from initial expectations and offers important recommendations for practitioners as OECM recognition grows rapidly worldwide.   The paper was led by Harry Jonas, managed by Ryan Zlatanova, and contributed to by colleagues from WWF, UNEP-WCMC, and a number of other institutions.    Read the full assessment here: https://lnkd.in/eGmCRNn6   For additional insights into the impact and importance of OECMs, check out our web story: https://lnkd.in/eCqr_4wz

WWF’s Food Waste Warriors program is a prime example of how education can drive meaningful change in the food system. Implemented in over 600 schools across 31 states, the Food Waste Warriors program turns cafeterias into classrooms and positions students as advocates for food waste reduction not only in their schools but also within their broader communities. WWF's Madalen Howard explains in a new blog: https://lnkd.in/gPve2vMy

Did you know that nearly one third of the food produced on Earth gets traded internationally rather than consumed locally? The global food system is one of the biggest drivers of climate change and biodiversity loss, so minimum sustainability standards for internationally traded food would go a long way toward slashing greenhouse gas emissions and saving ecosystems. Last week WWF launched Codex Planetarius to do just that. Tune into this week’s episode of Nature Breaking for an in-depth interview with Jason Clay about how this new initiative would work and why it’s so badly needed. bit.ly/3zHk3hC

Over half of the world's GDP is moderately or highly dependent on nature. But nature is at a tipping point, with a significant portion of the economy at risk due to nature loss. More and more businesses are stepping forward with science-based targets and nature commitments. And they’re looking for investment-ready, high-integrity NbS portfolios that deliver tangible results for people and nature. World Wildlife Fund's Nature-Based Solutions Origination Platform (NbS-OP) answers this demand with a new model for scaling up, aligning, and mobilizing public and private finance for NbS across entire landscapes: https://lnkd.in/efdQK9uw
