Today marks the anniversary of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, established on Aug. 18, 1990, through the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act. This program funds cities, counties, states, and local organizations to provide essential HIV care, treatment, and services to over 550,000 people—more than half of those diagnosed with HIV in the U.S. In 2022, over 89% of clients receiving care through the program achieved viral suppression, meaning they cannot transmit the disease and can live longer, healthier lives. Additionally, 57,000 health professionals received education and training to improve HIV treatment. WRMA has worked with the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program for more than a decade to help confront the HIV/AIDS epidemic in our country. Happy Anniversary to the National Apprenticeship Act! Today, we celebrate the landmark legislation that has empowered millions of Americans with the skills and training needed for rewarding careers. Since its enactment in 1937, the National Apprenticeship Act has been instrumental in promoting workforce development, bridging the skills gap, and fostering economic growth. This act allowed the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to issue regulations protecting the health, safety, and welfare of apprentices and preventing discrimination in apprenticeship programs. At WRMA, we are proud to support initiatives that expand apprenticeship opportunities, especially in early childhood education. We work with the DOL to expand Registered Apprenticeship programs in early childhood education through the Early Childhood Workforce Connector. The WRMA team supporting the Office of Child Care Center on Subsidy Innovation and Accountability (NCSIA), provides resources and technical assistance to states, territories, and Tribes for the effective use of federal child care subsidy funds. In June, team members traveled to Sacramento, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to assist the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) Lead Agencies in identifying challenge areas and mapping their comprehensive background check (CBC) processes. Our team facilitated dynamic sessions in each location focused on process mapping and led exercises to identify next steps and additional technical assistance needs. The team was energized by the enthusiasm of the participants and the appreciation each team expressed. The Early Childhood Workforce Connector, a U.S. Department of Labor funded project led by WRMA, has successfully completed its first year of work focused on developing, launching, and expanding early childhood education (ECE) Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs. Over the past year, the team has laid a solid foundation by assembling a group of subject matter experts, establishing relationships, and conducting extensive outreach to offer support and assistance. As they move into year two, they will continue to build on their strengths to expand and innovate ECE RA programs.
