As we approach the year's end, we invite you to make a significant impact on the lives of 3,600 seniors in our community. Every day, WSFSSH's 450 staff members support seniors in our buildings and Older Adult Centers. Many see our staff as their only "family" providing care. Despite the vital role our staff plays, WSFSSH and our peer providers rely on a government contracting system that doesn't recognize human service workers with fair wages or career development. A capable workforce is crucial to our mission, and we're committed to advocacy for wage equity, while simultaneously working on more immediate solutions. For that reason, we are pleased to share that an anonymous donor has generously offered a $100,000 matching gift in 2023 & 2024, doubling every charitable dollar contributed. These funds will help us create a STAFF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ENDOWMENT that will be used to send our promising mid-career staff to high impact, leadership development training to foster their professional growth, peer networks, and longevity within WSFSSH. Yesterday was #GivingTuesday. Today there are nearly 90,000 people staying in a New York City homeless shelter, and an estimated 10-15 % of them are older adults. With chronic health conditions and in need of growing support as they age, these seniors are dependent on a shelter system that was not designed for them. Today is #GivingTuesday. The number of homeless adults age 50 and older in New York City is projected to grow to more than 25,000 individuals in the next seven years. To meet this growing need, WSFSSH provides housing and on-site supportive services to over 2,500 vulnerable older adults in 30 buildings throughout Manhattan and the Bronx, with more on the way. Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday. Last week over 2,500 older, low-income, and formerly homeless adults celebrated the bounty of Thanksgiving from safe, permanent homes in WSFSSH buildings in Manhattan and the Bronx.
