Jessa's passion for caring for animals extends beyond the rodeo arena. At home on Windswept Farms, she raises miniature Herefords and looks after the farm's livestock. Her natural ability to care for animals has driven her to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. As the first African American state title holder, Jessa is determined to provide greater representation for different demographics through her platform, "Be YOU-tiful." She encourages everyone to be proud of who they are and to embrace their uniqueness. Jessa believes that everyone should have the chance to experience the feeling of standing in an arena surrounded by a patriotic community, coming together to pray, cheer, and laugh. Besa Gordon, host of #Back2Besa on FOX 13 Seattle, recently sat down with Good Day Seattle's Erin Mayovsky to discuss the Black Leadership Conference held at the University of Washington in celebration of National Black Business Month. The event, now in its third year, was founded by Lewis Rudd, co-founder of Ezell's Famous Chicken, and aimed to empower Black entrepreneurs through collaboration and networking. Gordon expressed her excitement about the conference, highlighting its "Ignite and Inspire" theme and the wealth of resources available to attendees, from workshops to one-on-one mentoring. Mayor Bruce Harrell and other city officials emphasized the importance of access to capital for Black businesses. The conference offered a variety of resources, including workshops, panel discussions, and one-on-one mentoring sessions. This episode closes out the week of 100 Days of Peace & 100 Days of Action at Paramount Theatre as Trae sits with Dylan O'Connor, Government Affairs Director of Alliance for Gun Responsibility and Karyn Brownson, the Community Safety Manager with the King County Lock it Up program. Karyn shares how they provide safety lock boxes for community members and Dylan describes the work his organization does around advocacy for gun safety legislation. Next, Trae ends the week with Deaunte Damper as he shares the work of the Central District Public Safety Accountability group and how they work to ensure community members are engaged in accountability for gun violence and community safety.

The 4th annual Hip Hop, Wine, and Chill event during PDX Hip Hop Week was an incredible success, uniting artists, entrepreneurs, and hip-hop enthusiasts at Abbey Creek Winery—Oregon’s first Black-owned vineyard in over 50 years. Hosted by Leadertainment LLC, the event celebrated the fusion of music, wine, and community, with DJ O.G. ONE highlighting how it fostered meaningful connections between business leaders and community members. Converge Media’s Omari Salisbury and Besa Gordon were recognized for their impactful coverage of Portland’s hip-hop culture, joining honorees like Cool Nutz, Tanya Cerda, and Tony Ozier. Besa Gordon called the event a true celebration of culture and collaboration, while Cool Nutz emphasized its reflection of Portland’s diverse and vibrant hip-hop scene. Founded by Idris “STARCHILE” O’Ferrell and DJ O.G. ONE, PDX Hip Hop Week continues to amplify and celebrate Portland’s hip-hop community. DJ O.G.
