Camp Wyman is bring art to the campers! Members of Camp Wyman Experiences and students of TOP and TCP were invited to complete a mural at camp. The latest addition is the work of Max Childers who's camp name is "Bones". Bones is a Trek Specialist and a lifeguard for the Wyman Leaders Summer Camp. This year, we started the journey to refresh our vision, beliefs, and mission statements. This process was NOT about changing our mission. The work we do and our commitment to young people has NOT changed. Rather, this was about updating the language we use to better reflect our values, and honor and uplift the teens we serve. Informed by young people in our programs, our staff, and our board – we hope you find our updated vision, beliefs, and mission powerful and inspiring. Beliefs: At Wyman, we believe every young person Possesses the talent and potential to succeed and lead; Needs healthy connections with caring adults and peers; Deserves quality educational and life experiences, unencumbered by economic and systemic barriers. The challenge is ON! The Mabee Foundation has given Wyman a challenge grant to support our capital campaign, but we need YOUR help to make it happen! Workplace retreat groups learn that camping can bring a team together! 🏕️ Through camp activities like canoeing, participants learn life-skills like effective-communication, positive redirection, and trust. Both teens and adults who visit Camp Wyman share new experiences. The support participants give one another is so impactful, and the increased vulnerability that they show in front of each other can be a big equalizer. We love sharing these moments with our participants. Did you know? The U.S. is experiencing a public health crisis around the mental health of our nation’s youth. The Education Trust recently released a new brief, which talks about the link between students’ academic learning and social and emotional well-being. And we encourage you to read it and learn more about why it is so important for states and schools to prioritize programs and opportunities that support the mental health and well-being of students. The alarming consequences of social disconnection among our nation’s youth show how important it is to invest in programs that work to re-establish and strengthen social connections. Wyman’s Teen Connection Project (TCP) is one of these programs and we are committed to working with schools and organizations to expand access to TCP and promote the health and healing of our nation’s youth. Today is Election Day in Missouri, and this is a perfect chance to welcome young people into the process. With the support of trusted adults and education about the rules and expectations of assigned voting locations, young people can become more comfortable about their first experience in the voter booth. Today, when you are headed to have your voice heard, take time to welcome the young people in your life with you! Provide an explanation of each step and let them see you submit your ballot. Seeing the process from beginning to end will make them more prepared when it's their turn! We couldn't do it without you!😊 Wyman volunteers and community partners joined forces with Wyman's Young Professionals Network to host an industry inspiration day for Wyman Leaders Summer Camp, 2nd session. And this was no regular Career Fair! Industry leaders from Missouri and Illinois came to camp to share some of the different industries that young people could thrive in. Some of the career fields were jobs that our teens had never heard of. And it is only through presenting all of the options that young people can choose the future that is right for them! This isn't the last Career Day for 2024!
