MILSATCOM-Compatible Commercial Satellites. Combat Ready.

About us

In the congested world of satellite communications, XTAR is unique in mission and focus: we are a commercial satellite operator, yet provide communications solely to military and government users. Offering connectivity in the X-band frequency range via two satellite payloads, XTAR provides full MILSATCOM compatibility, ideal for military enterprise communications, special operations missions, information gathering and border security. Featuring high-powered 72 MHz transponders and global, fixed and steerable beams, XTAR provides over 4 GB of cost-effective, flexible and secure X-band capacity. In 2019, Hisdesat announced that it will construct additional satellites through which XTAR will provide service in the X, Mil-Ka and UHF frequency bands. With these two next-generation satellites currently in the planning stages, XTAR is poised to serve the government and military for decades to come. Founded in 2001, XTAR is privately owned by majority shareholder Loral Space & Communications Inc. and minority shareholder Hisdesat Servicios Estratégicos S.A.

Building upon yesterday's post on the importance of securing the near-abroad in Latin America, today we share another great newspiece on the recent Arctic CHOD meeting in Iceland. This conference featured CJCS Gen Brown and other key Allied leaders with interests across this region, and addressed many issues in the new 2024 DoD Arctic Strategy, which focuses on enhancing domain awareness, Arctic capabilities, and increased cooperation with regional Allies.  Just like we do in Latin America, XTAR provides NATO Allied MILSATCOM warfighting capabilities to the DoD and NATO Allies in much of the Arctic region, routinely up to 70°N from our geosynchronous assets. The all-weather performance and resiliency of X-band, already well-known to the jungle warfighter, makes it an indispensable part of the NATO Arctic warfighter's SATCOM toolkit as well. Perhaps the best part: these Arctic warfighting capabilities are provided by the MILSATCOM assets of a key NATO Ally - the (much warmer) Kingdom of Spain - and are thus truly "Allied By Design." One of XTAR's own, Todd Dudley, provides interesting thoughts on the particular importance of partner nations, and surface drones and unmanned aerial systems like the MQ-4C Triton, to provide a persistent, all-weather ISR presence in the Western Hemisphere, especially when manpower and other resources are pulled elsewhere. We couldn't agree more: XTAR provides the X-band NATO Allied MILSATCOM connectivity required for all-weather, mission-critical weapons systems - and we cover the Western Hemisphere too.

Great post from the Center for Maritime Strategy, reminding us that while it is perhaps too easy to focus our attention - and resources - on wars in Europe and the Middle East, and growing tensions in Asia, the near-abroad remains full of its own regional security challenges. With China moving in the background across this region, and with literally tons of illicit activity ranging from narcotics trafficking to illegal fishing on any given day, our successful regional security cooperation efforts with key regional allies, like Brazil, becomes more important than ever. These key regional efforts, combined with the use of technological advances such as surface drones and all-weather unmanned ISR platforms like the MQ-4C Triton, will help usher in the next 200 years of successful cooperation in the critical (but often silent) battles already raging in the Western Hemisphere. https://lnkd.in/dXwpvXxb

The best part of our mission: helping DoD and NATO warfighters by providing them with a combat-ready, NATO CP-130-compliant MILSATCOM constellation - for use in military exercises, and then in real-world combat operations. This is FIGHTING SATCOM. This is all we do.

ALLIED BY DESIGN. This is a key tenet of US Space Force strategy in the space domain, was a key topic of discussion at this week's Intelligence and National Security Alliance event on 28 Aug - and it describes XTAR perfectly. Many people don't know that XTAR was the world's first company, founded way back in 2001, specifically designed to deliver the advanced MILSATCOM warfighting capabilities of a NATO Ally - the Kingdom of Spain - directly to the DoD and to other NATO Allies. Today, we deliver the advanced warfighting capabilities found on these MILSATCOM systems to multiple NATO Allies and partner nations. It is all we do, by design, and we look forward to December 2024 when we will launch the first of our triband (X/mil-Ka/UHF) NextGeneration satellites, which will deliver state-of-the-art Allied warfighting capabilities well in the the future. XTAR really is ALLIED BY DESIGN. https://lnkd.in/djPpZyj5

Senior officials from our Spanish affiliate, Hisdesat, met in early August with senior Spanish government officials including the Spanish Minister of Defense and Secretary of State to discuss the triband (X-/mil-Ka/UHF) NextGeneration satellites that will be launched in late 2024, and 2025, for the Spanish Armed Forces - and provided to the DoD and to NATO Allies and partners as well. At both Hisdesat and XTAR, when your company's single mission is to deliver combat capabilities to the warfighter, even these "informal" meetings with senior government officals are a key part of what you do... ...and our desktop models are cooler too. #Spainsat #MILSATCOM

It is always exciting to know that we make important contributions to DoD and NATO warfighters each and every day, by providing the MILSATCOM capacity of a NATO Ally - the Kingdom of Spain - to our DoD and NATO warfighters. The triband (X/mil-Ka/UHF) NextGeneration MILSATCOM satellites, arriving on-orbit in 2025 and 2026, will be the most advanced satellites of their kind over Europe upon their arrival and will make even greater contributions to regional security. That is why this latest news concerning amendment to the NATO SATCOM Services 6th Generation (NSS6G) Memorandum of Agreement is so special. Under this recently-approved Amendment, the NextGen satellites will also provide capacity directly to NATO Headquarters. Spain will become part of an elite group of only six NATO members who provide MILSATCOM services to NATO itself, making for an even stronger NATO Alliance moving forward. Stronger together. https://lnkd.in/eEYxVfsx

X-, mil-Ka, and UHF capacity? Check. Array X-band antennas with the latest anti-jam features? Check. Bidirectional X-/mil-Ka cross-banding to support SWAP-limited applications? Check, Nuclear hardening? Check. 100% NATO CP-130 compliant? Check. Already works with all NATO MILSATCOM wideband and legacy narrowband terminals? Checkmate. The fully-software defined XTAR-NextGen satellites - the MILSATCOM assets of a NATO Ally - will be the most advanced satellites of their kind over Europe, and they begin launching this November. XTAR makes these state-of-the-art MILSATCOM assets commercially available to the DoD and the entire NATO Alliance, helping DoD and NATO combat forces stay light, lethal, and combat-effective. And that is good news in any language.
