Produce brands like Yes! Apples, The Wonderful Company, and Ark Foods are taking cues from categories like CPG to differentiate themselves, both in the produce aisle and on eCommerce platforms. By using brand development and storytelling to gain customers’ loyalty, these produce brands strive to sell more units at higher margins. “As investors we have to recognize this is not, and can’t be, an explosive category, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a huge opportunity,” said Elly Truesdell, the co-founder and managing partner of venture-capital firm New Fare, which invests in food and beverage businesses. Thank you to Katie Deighton for the feature! #wsj #cmotoday #produce #branding #marketing

Our long-time grower partners, the Crist family, were recently honored by the Orange County Land Trust for their commitment to stewardship of the land their family has been farming for 5 generations. Crist Bros. Orchards has been farming since 1883 and currently manages 700 acres of apples across 9 different orchards. Jeff and Joy Crist, 4th generation farmers, utilize science, marketing, economics, and emerging trends to shape Crist Bros. Orchards into a state-of-the-art powerhouse. Their children, Jenny Crist Kohn and Joel Crist, continue to care for the land and operate the business while raising their own families (the 6th generation of Crist farmers!) in the beautiful Hudson Valley. We are proud that the Crist family is part of our Yes! Apples family tree!

We recently had the opportunity to support our 1% for the Planet partner, City Growers, at their Annual Gala. This event directly supports City Growers' efforts to connect New York City youth to nature and to open their eyes to a vast and thriving urban ecosystem, even in areas without parks and gardens. The meal served to guests highlighted New York State producers, including Yes! Apples and vegetables harvested from urban gardens, just steps away from where attendees sat. City Growers hosted 140 attendees and raised a record amount of money. It was a resounding success and we’re so glad we got to be a part of it! To learn more and donate, visit www.citygrowers.org. 🌱

Not only is Bobby Brown a world-class apple grower, but he also contributes heavily to research activities and community and constantly seeks new ways to grow the best apples in the world. This, and for many other reasons, is why Bobby was named Apple Grower of the Year for the East Region! We are so grateful to have Bobby, his wife, Beth, and all of Orchard Dale Fruit Co. on our team growing high-quality and high-flavor apples for our customers nationwide. Bobby has been a partner in his family's eighth-generation farm on the shores of Lake Ontario since 2006 and we can't wait to see what he has in store for the future. Congratulations, Bobby, on this well-deserved accolade!

Our 1% for the Planet partner, The Giving Grove, prioritizes holistic pest management to ensure their fruit is safe to eat straight from the tree. They use natural, eco-friendly methods to protect their orchards from pests without harmful chemicals. This approach not only safeguards their produce but also rejuvenates and maintains soil health, fostering a thriving ecosystem. Their commitment to sustainable practices helps them nurture their trees and the environment, creating a healthier, more resilient community for everyone to enjoy! June 17-21 is Pollinator Week! We're celebrating the hard-working insects and animals that fertilize our orchards. We're all familiar with bees, butterflies, and small birds (think: hummingbirds), but did you know that other pollinators include wasps, moths, flies, and even bats? Pollination is essential to maintaining genetic diversity in plants through cross-pollination. Flowering apple trees provide us with nourishment and also stabilize the soil, clean the air, supply oxygen, and support wildlife! Visit pollinator.org to learn more about how you can support our pollinators, this week and all year long. 🐝 + 🌳 = 🌸 + 🍎
