Anyone can drown. No one should. July 25 is World Drowning Prevention Day. Drowning has caused over 2.5 million deaths in the last decade. Globally, the highest drowning rates occur among children aged 1–4 years, followed by children aged 5–9 years. The human, social and economic toll of these losses is intolerably high, and entirely preventable. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSwXSbJb

Our Summer Serve youth are collecting shelf-stable, nonperishable, nut-free foods on behalf of Blessings in a Backpack, Frederick Chapter! Blessings in a Backpack is a nonprofit organization that aims to combat childhood hunger by providing weekend food for children who might otherwise go hungry. In one bag, children receive two protein items, two fruits, two breakfast items, and two snacks! Summer Serve is a two-week summer camp aiming to engage youth in meaningful volunteer service opportunities during the summer, helping them develop leadership skills, gain valuable work experience, and make a positive impact in their community. Together, these two groups are doing great things. If you have some food to donate, we are collecting through Thursday, August 1, at the Downtown Y, Natelli Family Y, and the Y Arts Center.
