Chief Youth Development Program Officer at YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles

Eliminating barriers to youth sports programs, since 2022 the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles has offered all youth sports and youth sports leagues for free to members. This has allowed thousands of children and young people to participate in Jr. LA Clippers basketball, Los Angeles Kings Ball Hockey, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Baseball, Softball, T-Ball and Coach Pitch, LA Galaxy Youth Soccer, SCGA Junior Golf, Volleyball and Flag Football leagues at the Y, season after season, for no cost. There is no arguing the positive impact that youth sports has on the lives of young people. It’s why I’m proud to lead a program department that understands its value for young people. #WeAreYouthDevelopment Positive Coaching Alliance

  • Last night, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles hosted its 142nd Annual Celebration. This event is a celebration of the impact team members and volunteers generated for our children, youth, families, and communities over the year across Los Angeles County. During the event, volunteers were honored for their years of dedication and partnership. The work of the Y isn't possible without the support of the thousands of volunteers across LA. We are so proud and grateful for all our team members, volunteers, and supporters like you who make the LA Y The Center for Community Well-Being in Los Angeles. #ymca #LosAngeles #community #nonprofitorganization #youthdevelopment #socialimpact

  • In correlation with Welcome Week, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles would like to feature Geovany Gonzaga, Social Impact Coordinator based in Southeast-Rio Vista YMCA. One aspect of Geovany’s role is helping people with their process towards United States Citizenship. Geovany shares his story: “I started with the Y last year in July and working with the Y has been a delight. It is always a great pleasure to hear back from clients we’ve helped that they have now become US citizens. We work closely with clients to try and answer any of their questions and address their concerns. As we fill out citizenship applications, we make sure to tell our clients what to expect throughout the whole process. This entails what they should receive in the mail, how long USCIS takes to process their application, and of course how their interview will be like. We also give studying material so that they can go home and practice the Civics questions they will need to know before their interview. We also work closely with clients by offering a Citizenship Support group class to help clients practice, study, and learn what they will need to know before their interview. We want the best outcome for our clients so we make sure to prep them as best we can so they can have a successful interview at USCIS. This work hits home to me because I myself come from immigrant parents who’ve worked hard so that I can be where I am today. It brings me great joy to hear when one of our clients has become a US citizen because seeing this work come to fruition starts to break down these walls of fear that many in the immigrant community have. Many fear just hearing the world immigration. It is an absolute pleasure to be able to help our clients become reassured of their status in this country. I hope that through this work, our clients can start to feel included and create a sense of belonging, not only to the immigrant community, but to their entire community as a whole. The United States is a land of immigrants so making them feel like they belong and that they are a part of this country is truly fulfilling.” Thank You Geovany for the work you do, and the impact you make within our communities. #ymca #LosAngeles #uscitizenship #americancitizen #welcomeweek
