We are keeping individuals and YMCAs in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and all areas affected by Hurricane Helene in our thoughts and prayers. Many communities are dealing with loss of life, unimaginable damage, and a lack of power, cell service and water. Y-USA has created a centralized relief fund and will work with Y leaders to distribute donations to YMCA associations that need them most, to aid near-term efforts to get damaged facilities back up and running and to support long-term recovery. To donate, please follow the link below: https://lnkd.in/gJuYZXQk

Thank you for celebrating #WelcomingWeek2024 at the Y! Even though Welcoming Week has officially ended, the Y remains committed to creating spaces where neighbors can come together and everyone feels like they belong. The Y participates in Welcoming Week to highlight the values that unite us as neighbors and to make our communities more welcoming to those who call Middle Tennessee home. We hope you enjoyed celebrating Welcoming Week with us this year and we encourage you to continue working to make Middle Tennessee a more welcoming community where newcomers, including immigrants and refugees, belong and thrive!

Over the weekend, the Green Hills YMCA hosted a quarterly meeting for our Volunteer Chaplains. During the meeting, several new Volunteer Chaplains were welcomed to the team, including Mary Price at the Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA and the Sharon Conley Cottingham at the Bellevue Family YMCA. Our Y Volunteer Chaplains provide faith-inspired love, support, encouragement and prayer to the staff, members and volunteers of each of our locations. They strive to offer a non-anxious, non-judgmental, listening and life-giving presence to all. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a YMCA Volunteer Chaplain with the Spirit-Mind Department, please fill out a Volunteer interest form at: https://shorturl.at/XP6p2

Here at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, we value whole-person wellness, which includes the mental health of our community. One resource we would like to highlight is the suicide and crisis lifeline - 988 - a vital resource for responding to the needs of those struggling with their mental health. Mark your calendars for 988 Day on September 8 (9/8) and help raise awareness. #988Day #YForAll

We are thrilled to share that the Northwest Family YMCA is one of 343 grantees selected to receive a 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant from AARP Livable Communities and AARP Tennessee! We are incredibly proud that AARP selected us for this investment to bring increased technology education to the Northwest YMCA, and to make technology more accessible for residents of all ages. Mia McNeil (Tennessee State Director), Rita Martell (Director of Volunteers) and Stacy Pennington (Senior Community Outreach Director, Middle Tennessee) of AARP joined John Mikos (CEO), Roy Brown (Executive Director of Northwest Family YMCA) and Justin Bauer (Executive Director, Sponsored Programs) for a visit to the new Technology and Support Lab at the Northwest Y, made possible due to the generous support of AARP. The AARP Community Challenge is a grant program to make tangible improvements in communities that jump-start long-term change. It is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages.
