🦸♂️🦸♀️ The Library Was Packed with Superheroes!🦸♂️🦸♀️ This weekend, Yonkers Public Library Riverfront was filled with excitement and joy during our Superhero Dance Party for people with disabilities. It was amazing to see so many heroes having an afternoon full of fun! 🎉🕺💃 On Friday, the library was packed with capes, smiles, and lots of dancing. Yonkers proudly welcomes the opening of the Sonia Sotomayor School, named after the first Latina and third woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. In 2009, Sotomayor broke boundaries, rising from the Bronx to the highest court in the country. Her journey, from growing up in public housing to graduating from Princeton and Yale, is a true inspiration. In honor of this momentous occasion and #HispanicHeritageMonth, we recommend reading her story in My Beloved World. Yonkers Public Library is thrilled to announce our new collaboration with St. John's Riverside Hospital, launching the Born to Read initiative as part of our early literacy program, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. As part of this exciting partnership, every new parent will receive a special care package that includes: - Diapers & bib - A board book - A Yonkers Public Library card - Early literacy development information Additional resources to support your family's reading journey The Born to Read initiative is designed to encourage parents to read aloud to their newborns, infants, and toddlers. By incorporating regular reading into your daily routine, you make your local library a cornerstone of your child’s development. Our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program supports this journey with progress charts, celebrations, and gamified elements, making reading an engaging and achievable goal.
