Yonkers Public Schools is the fourth largest school district in New York State, located in the lower Hudson Valley, immediately north of New York City. Today a rigorous core curriculum and innovative programs in 39 schools throughout the City of Yonkers challenge a vibrant learning community of 27,000 students from 100 cultures, backgrounds and nationalities in grades prekindergarten through 12. Students participate in learning opportunities in the classroom, on the stage, on the playing field and with colleges and universities, museums and cultural institutions, major corporations and local businesses, as well as non-profit and community groups, and government agencies. As the 2nd largest employer in Westchester County, Yonkers Public Schools’ diverse workforce of 3,300 educators and support staff enthusiastically shares the District’s mission to empower all students to take their place in the world as knowledgeable, competent, responsible citizens.

This morning, Superintendent of Schools Anibal Soler, Jr., Board of Education President Dr. Rosalba Corrado DelVecchio & Trustee Sheila Greenwald joined The City of Yonkers annual 9/11 memorial service on the banks of the Hudson River to honor the lives lost, including first responder Yamel Merino, a former Lincoln High School student. #Congratulations! Upon the recommendation of Superintendent of Schools Anibal Soler, Jr., the Yonkers Board of Education this evening appointed Mr. Jamell Scott as the new principal of Barack Obama School for Social Justice. Mr. Scott is a proud Yonkers native and Charles E. Gorton High School alumnus. Mr. Scott brings with him a wealth of experience. He has dedicated over a decade to the field of education, most recently serving as Assistant Principal at Yonkers Middle High School during the 2023 - 2024 school year. He is a product of Yonkers Public Schools and furthered his education at SUNY Cortland, where he laid the foundation for a successful and impactful career.
