New to SEO? We all were at some point! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with terms like “backlinks,” “technical optimization,” and “keyword research” flying around. But here’s the thing—SEO doesn’t have to be complicated. At Growth Machine, we believe anyone can master SEO with the right roadmap, one that breaks down each step and focuses on results. Here’s a beginner-friendly look at our 10-step approach to help you understand what it takes to make your website shine in search. 1️⃣ Audit your foundation: Start with an in-depth look at your current setup. The better the foundation, the better the results. 2️⃣ Set clear objectives: Goals keep you grounded. Focus on what you want to achieve, whether that’s visibility, traffic, or sales. 3️⃣ Keyword research with intent: Target keywords that align with searcher intent. People looking to buy vs. learn need different answers! 4️⃣ Content with a purpose: Create content that matters and stick to a calendar that keeps it fresh and relevant. 5️⃣ Commit to quality content: Don’t just aim to rank; aim to make an impact. High-quality content is what keeps visitors engaged. 6️⃣ Optimize the technical side: Load time, mobile friendliness, and structured data aren’t flashy but are SEO essentials. 7️⃣ Synchronize across platforms: Use SEO as a foundation for other channels—social media, email, and paid ads work even better with SEO. 8️⃣ Backlinks with integrity: Build trust and authority by connecting with reputable sites in your industry. 9️⃣ User-friendly experience: Make your site easy and enjoyable to use—good UX is good for SEO too! 🔟 Analyze, tweak, repeat: SEO is a living strategy. Track what works and be ready to refine as you go. Ready to make your SEO strategy work as hard as you do?

Write better content, not more content. ✅ While it DOES take a certain amount of regularly-published content to start ranking, for 90% of the sites we see, volume isn't the issue. For most clients that come to us, two things are true: 1️⃣ Their website isn't ranking for unbranded keywords (meaning no net-new customers are finding them through search). 2️⃣ They have a massive and lovingly-crafted library of keyword-optimized content, and they keep publishing more. But organic traffic never grows. So what's going on? Usually, it's their strategy: they aren't appealing to the right customer, or the right type of keywords, or they are positioning themselves against competitors who aren't. Sometimes, it's their tactics: they didn't do long tail keyword research, they're not publishing consistently, or their content isn't long enough, detailed enough, expert enough, or well-optimized. In either case, more isn't going to move the needle, until it's better targeted and better produced. So stop writing content, until you do the legwork to ensure you're writing the RIGHT content. If you keep banging your head against the wall, you're going to get a nasty bruise. And that wall isn't going anywhere. 🤕 It's the same with content. Just, less painful. (Or is it?)

Have you ever gone into a grocery store, grabbed what you think you need, and then realized later you forgot half the ingredients for dinner? (Yeah... same 😅) That’s what it's like trying to boost your site's traffic without keyword research. Think of keyword research as writing down your grocery list before you go shopping — it ensures you’ve got your bases covered before you even start cooking, or in your case, crafting your content. Whether it’s long-tail keywords that address specific questions or phrases that solve problems, these are the ingredients that will actually draw people to your website. Growth Machine is a content marketing boutique who specializes in content strategy and marketing content. Can we help you create that grocery list? https://lnkd.in/g8VD37bh

Congratulations to our VP of Sales Lindsay Rios!

*Turns volume all the way up* 📢📢 Congratulations Lindsay Rios, on being named by Demandbase and Women in Sales as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Sales in 2024! 📢📢 As someone who is fortunate to work with Lindsay, let me tell you a little bit about her, and why she is so deserving of this. When I set out to hire a Fractional VP of Sales, I never expected to get this lucky. My goal was simply to hire someone a couple days a week to focus on rebuilding and strengthening our sales operation - an area of expertise that I am not the strongest in, and that needed a lot more attention and focus than I had to give. I found that in Lindsay. But I also found: ✨ An amazing human who immediately understood what we needed in sales as a company, and what I needed as a manager, better than I did. ✨ A smart, creative, resourceful, organized, skilled, and thoughtful leader. ✨ A stealth marketer, outbound video host, comedian, Notion Ninja, and so much more. ✨ Someone with excellent music taste 😉 ✨ A true (and I mean this sincerely, not in the corporate-bullshit-y way) team player, who is consistently ready and willing to help me solve tough problems and unhesitatingly takes on responsibilities that are not in her job description, like conducting market research and building us a killer partner network. I could go on and on. The point is that in the last 7 months, Lindsay has made an impact on Growth Machine, and on me, that I could never have envisioned when I was first writing the job description. She deserves every moment of this recognition, and more. 🏆

You know when you hear the word "coffee" and instantly think of Starbucks or Dunkin'? That's 'share of voice' at work. These brands own the conversation in their industry! But here’s the catch: SOV isn’t just for the big guys. If you're a small business, tracking your share of voice is a powerful way to understand your place in the market. And if you want more of that mindshare, you'll need to outsmart, not outspend, your competition. What’s your biggest challenge in being the brand people talk about?

"Why hire a content agency when I can just use AI?" Because AI can't think. AI lacks substance. I'll prove it: I borrowed a common LinkedIn hook to prompt LinkedIn AI to write a post for me. This is the kind of content that is everywhere on the platform so its AI algorithm should have plenty of inputs to work with. But this is the result. I gave it a softball request that it should have knocked out of the park, but all it produced was a list of nothing, then added (too many) (useless) hashtags. Still think you can trust AI to write for you in a world where thoughtful, substantive content is the only way to win? 😬

You might’ve heard people use the terms “reach” and “impressions” interchangeably... but they’re NOT the same! Imagine that you’re throwing a party. Reach is how many people show up. Impressions? That’s how many times you see them in the crowd throughout the night. The more unique people that see your content, the higher your reach. But impressions tell you how often that content gets shown. Both are important for building brand awareness and driving conversions. Do you think it’s more important to get more people in the door or make sure they remember you? ⬇️
