Happy Global IT Outage Friday! Courtesy of Crowdstrike and Microsoft Two simultaneous and unrelated outages are causing chaos across the globe this morning as a software update from cybersecurity company Crowdstrike crashed hundreds of thousands of computers overnight. This issue is ongoing and appears to require manual intervention on each affected machine. Separately, Microsoft's Azure servers in the EMEA region had a configuration error resulting in users being unable to access certain cloud resources. This issue appears to be resolved. https://lnkd.in/g_aBryJ8

Who do you know that’s a great team leader or manager but is frustrated at their current job? We’re reducing the technical skills needed for our Service Delivery Manager position and allowing that role to focus more on providing an amazing experience for the team and clients. The job posting is not yet updated (and some technical knowledge and experience is needed), they won’t be expected to be the ‘smartest person in the room’. #sharingiscaring #hiring https://lnkd.in/gSDAbSmA

Have you had trouble installing the Windows 11 January 2024 update? Seems like it’s causing headaches for some people. \n\nMicrosoft's aware of the issue but hasn't pinpointed the exact cause.\n\nWhile not everyone's facing this, it's good to know the workaround just in case. If you’ve been affected, here’s one way to tackle it:\n\n- Download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website.\n\n- Run it and choose "Create installation media for another PC."\n\n- Follow the prompts to create an ISO file and let it download the necessary files.\n\n- Run setup.exe, select "Upgrade this PC now," and make sure to keep your personal files and apps. \n\nYour Windows will get a refresh, and after a few restarts, try installing the update again. \n\nBut if that sounds complicated or you have dozens of machines in your business, we’re always here to give you a helping hand. Get in touch. #Microsoft #Windows11 #InstallationIssues https://lnkd.in/d8VhTFus

You might have noticed that Microsoft has been giving some of its in-box apps a major makeover lately, adding productivity-boosting features left and right. Think extra abilities in the Snipping Tool, and a modern makeover for Paint and Notepad. Well, it seems like Sticky Notes in Windows 10 and 11 is next in line to get a makeover.\n\nWhile the details are under wraps for now, I bet these updates will bring some awesome AI features to make your note-taking even smarter. \n\nIf you're a fan of Sticky Notes for keeping track of important details, you'll be happy to know that it's here to stay as a desktop app (it’s not turning into a web app anytime soon). \n\nDo you use Sticky Notes? Or will you after its makeover? #StickyNotes #Productivity #MicrosoftUpdates https://lnkd.in/dmvNcmQM

Remember the days when bulky desktop scanners were a must-have in every office? Here's how to do it:\n\n- Open your Google Drive app\n- Tap the Camera icon\n- Align your document within the frame\n- Use auto-capture or hit that camera button\n- Edit the scan if needed\n- If it didn't come out right, no worries, you can rescan\n- When you're satisfied, simply tap 'Done'\n\nTa dah! You've just turned your phone into a powerful scanner that can back up documents to the cloud and make them crystal clear. \n\nWhat other ‘old’ office tech do you miss? #GoogleDrive #scanner #HowTo https://lnkd.in/dbAv5NU9

Here’s an important heads-up regarding your Outlook emails in Windows 11. \n\nRecent reports suggest that Microsoft might be sharing more of your email data than you'd like. This is crucial because Outlook for Windows is now the default email program in Windows 11, and this could impact a lot of us who rely on it for work and personal emails. \n\nProtonMail, an encrypted email service, uncovered that Outlook for Windows collects your emails, contacts, browsing history, and maybe even your location data. They've even dubbed it "a surveillance tool for targeted advertising." \n\nYikes!\n\nWhile most of this data seems to be used for advertising, here's the kicker: You have to manually opt out of sharing your data with each of the 772 companies. It's a time-consuming process.\n\nBut Outlook is a fantastic tool we don’t want to say goodbye to. What’s the solution? \n\nDon't worry, you have options to protect your data:\n\n- Go to your Outlook for Windows settings and find 'Advertising Preferences' in the General section.\n\n- You'll see a list of company names with toggles set to 'enable.'\n\n- While there's no one-click 'reject all' button, you can manually deselect each one.\n\n- Each company has info on their privacy policies and an option to opt out.\n\nRemember, it's important to read user agreements and disclaimers for free apps like this - or have someone else (like us) do it for you! #Outlook #DataPrivacy #OptOut https://lnkd.in/dzrAkuRH

Here’s one you may not have seen coming… Microsoft and Google have teamed up to make Edge in Windows 11 feel lightning fast.\n\nThey've expanded Windows 11's Application Launch Prefetch range (APLF), and while it might be a mouthful, it's also a game-changer. \n\nAPLF uses a '"/prefetch"' parameter to optimize app loading, giving Edge more processing power and memory. The result? Faster startup, smoother website displays (yes, even image-heavy ones), and an overall faster experience.\n\nBut why is Google helping out Edge, you ask? \n\nWell, both Google’s Chrome and Edge share the same Chromium codebase, so improving Edge's performance means Chrome benefits too. Teamwork makes the dream work.\n\nThis collaboration showcases the beauty of open-source projects like Chromium, where big companies like Google and Microsoft pool their resources for everyone's benefit. \n\nRight now, the improved Prefetch feature is in the Edge Canary build, but if all goes well, it'll roll out to everyone soon. Plus, APLF will be available for any Windows 11 app, not just browsers.\n\nHave you been waiting for a speed boost? #MicrosoftEdge #SpeedBoost #Windows11 https://lnkd.in/d34a83Hv

Google has a new update that might change how we interact with our devices. You've heard of Google Assistant, right? Well, it's undergoing a transformation into something new and exciting – Google Bard.\n\nThink of Google Bard as the next-gen voice assistant, ready to make your tech experience even better. It's like the evolution of Google Assistant, with some cool new features and a fresh look.\n\nJust like with Assistant, you can summon Bard with a simple 'Hey Google.' But here's where the magic happens: It's getting even smarter and easier to use.\n\nIf you've noticed changes lately, you're not alone. The friendly introduction used to be "I'm Assistant with Bard," but now it's just "I'm Bard." That's a sign of Google Bard becoming its own digital assistant. When you dive into settings, you'll now find "Bard Settings" instead of "Assistant with Bard settings." It's all about streamlining and making things more intuitive.\n\nSoon, you might be saying 'Hey Bard' to your devices instead of 'Hey Google.'\n\nGoogle Bard is gearing up to be a real competitor to Alexa, with seamless integration across Google's devices and even third-party gadgets with Assistant functionality.\n\nHave you already tried Google Bard? What do you think? #GoogleBard #AI #GoogleAssistant https://lnkd.in/d6yVdwdT
