SMITHSONIAN AMERICAN WOMEN'S HISTORY MUSEUM 🏛️ WE DO DECLARE! Women's stories and voices matter. Today, tomorrow, and forever. Can you imagine not being able to use your own funds? It wasn't too long ago that the 1974 Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) illegalized the gender inequity that prevented women from acquiring their own bank loans, which then prompted the 1976 supplementary protection against discrimination for socioeconomic and other demographic elements. The marginalization of women is a global issue in which many challenges have been overcome, but we still have a ways to go. We don't know where we are going until we know where we have been, and now is the perfect time to contribute to long-term women's empowerment. 🤝 🙏🏽 Make sure to follow @SmithsonianWomen for more: 🗨️ Oral histories from diverse women 🗨️ Community stories 🗨️ National partnerships 🗨️ Educational resources 🗨️ Public programming 🗨️ Online interactive experience #Womenshistory #Communityoutreach #ywcainspires #ywcainspira #smithsonianwomen #wedodeclare #smithsonianamericanwomenshistorymuseum ✨ Launching Today! As we conclude our Week Without Violence, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in raising awareness and supporting this important cause. Your dedication to fostering understanding and compassion is crucial in our pursuit of a safer world. This week, we shared resources and engaged in important conversations, but it’s vital to remember that self-care is equally important. Supporting others and advocating for change can be emotionally taxing, so take time to care for yourself. Whether it’s through relaxation, connecting with loved ones, or engaging in activities that bring you joy, prioritizing your well-being helps sustain our collective efforts. Thank you for being a part of this movement. Together, let’s continue to advocate for a world free from violence while also nurturing ourselves. 💜 #ywca #ywcainspira #ywcanca #ywcainspires #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth

Every minute, nearly 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S.—that’s over 10 million individuals each year. In Washington, D.C., a staggering 39% of women report physical or sexual assault by a current or former partner. These statistics reveal a heartbreaking reality that many face in silence. The challenges are immense: high incidence rates, limited safe housing, and insufficient support services leave survivors feeling trapped. We must stand together to raise awareness and demand change. If you or someone you know is in need of help, please reach out to these vital resources: DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence: DCCADV.org Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) YWCA : YWCA.org Let’s break the silence and support those who need it most. 💜 Source: National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV)
