About us
The YWCA Union County opened its doors in 1920 and has been serving the women, children and families of Union County ever since, with a long history of promoting the rights and health of women and their families at home, in the workplace, and in the community, and advocating on behalf of social and racial justice. Our mission is eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. In 1978, in response to the growing concern about domestic violence in Union County, the YWCA Union County established an emergency shelter for battered women and their children. Today, we are recognized as the lead domestic violence agency in Union County, with a full range of services provided.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all our honorees, our generous donors, and our dedicated politicians, especially Mayor Christian Bollwage of the City of Elizabeth. Your support has been instrumental in raising the funds necessary to complete our beautiful 13,000-square-foot building, scheduled to open in November 2024. Your support elevates our program services to new heights in Union County, and we could not do this without your help. Together, let’s look forward to a vibrant future! #thankyou #buildingnewbeginnings #elizabethnj #unioncountynj #ywca #ywcaunioncounty

Last evening, we held our 2nd Family Fun Night of the month and we had a Monster Mash. Clients were treated to a photo opportunity to take a picture as a family, face painting and tattoo station, pumpkin patch, costume contest, piñata, and dancing. Families were served food and refreshments. Fun events like these are made possible by our friends Westfield United Fund. #monstermash #familyfunnight #halloween #familyfun #ywca #ywcaunioncounty

Introducing our Revive Award honoree, the City of Elizabeth! The Elizabeth Home Improvement Program (EHIP), a division of the City of Elizabeth’s Department of Planning & Community Development, plays a critical role in advancing the City's affordable housing priorities. With a commitment to stabilizing neighborhoods, EHIP fosters safe, decent, and affordable rental housing and provides Tenant Based Rental Assistance to individuals supported by local social service agencies. Funded through the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs, EHIP administers non-public housing initiatives. By offering financial assistance to eligible property owners, developers, contractors, and non-profits, EHIP supports the acquisition, rehabilitation, and construction of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents. Through the HOME-American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) funds, EHIP also supports shelter initiatives, ensuring critical housing resources are available to vulnerable populations. #elizabethnj #elizabeth #newjersey #reviveaward #honoree #gala #buildingnewbeginnings
