At YWCA Yakima, our mission is to "Eliminate Racism, Empower Women." But what does "eliminating racism" look like? For us, it means actively working to remove social prejudice, discrimination, and systematic inequality based on race from society. This can look like: 🔸 Educating yourself and others: Study the history and impact of racism, including how it presents itself in society today. 🔸 Understanding Privilege: Acknowledge how privilege operates and affects different groups. 🔸 Speak Up: Confront racist actions or comments when you see them. 🔸 Support Policies and Practices for Equality: Support legislation and policies that aim to reduce racial inequalities, such as criminal justice reform, fair housing, and equitable education. 🔸 Reflect on Personal Biases: Acknowledge and work to change any unconscious biases you may hold. We believe in a world where all women, girls, and gender-diverse people, especially those of color, are free from racism and sexism, experience justice and equity, and are able to thrive. For more information on what we do, visit our website at www.ywcayakima.org. #YWCAYakima #Yakima #EliminatingRacism

YWCA Yakima's impact matters: 85% of individuals who stay in our shelter go on to find permanent housing and transition to safe, stable, and independent living situations after participating in our programs. Domestic violence affects far too many lives, and the need for safe spaces has never been greater. Our new building will triple our capacity, allowing us to provide a safe, supportive environment for even more individuals and families. 🌟 Donate today and help us create a place of hope, safety, and new beginnings: https://lnkd.in/gcfkAZwQ. #YWCAYakima #EndDomesticViolence #SupportSurvivors

📣 "Why don't they just leave?" It's a question that's often asked, but the answer isn't so simple. Leaving an abusive relationship is one of the most dangerous times for a victim. Fear of retaliation, financial dependence, isolation from friends and family, and emotional manipulation are just a few of the many barriers they face. Abusers will use these tactics to make victims feel trapped and unable to break free. It's crucial to understand that leaving isn't just a matter of walking out the door - it's about surviving. YWCA Yakima offers support, resources, and care to those escaping domestic violence situations. ☎️ If you, or someone you know, is experiencing abuse, please call our helpline at (509) 248-7796 or visit our website at www.ywcayakima.org. You are never alone. #DomesticViolence #BreaktheSilence #YWCAYakima #YakimaCommunity #Yakima
