Congratulations team #Century and team Zap Energy overall. Century was just an idea on my whiteboard a few short years ago. We made it happen.
Today we’re excited to unveil #Century, a major new demo of Zap fusion power plant technologies. If the race to develop fusion is a triathlon with science, engineering and commercialization legs, we’re on our bike and pedaling hard. We’re adding some new logos to our racing kit too, with a fresh round of $130 million from Soros Fund Management, Mizuho, Emerson Collective, Leitmotif, BAM Elevate, Xplor Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Breakthrough Energy and more. 🏊🚴🏃 PRESS RELEASE: https://lnkd.in/e2mRi34i As a recap, our fusion physics allows for a much smaller, simpler, cheaper set of hardware. But fusion is still an extreme sport, and in order to reach wall-plug energy gain, resiliency is a central concern. Century takes that on by integrating 3 key technologies: flowing liquid metal walls, high-rep-rate pulsed power, and electrode damage mitigation. We put the first plasmas in Century this summer and then ran it for hours, totaling a run of 1,080 Z pinches in a row. We’re aiming for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) milestone soon and then will make improvements and keep ramping up in the coming year. Meanwhile, our physicists are currently at #APSDPP24 in Atlanta with Head of FuZE Physics Colin Adams presenting results right as this news publishes. If you’re there, be sure to visit our table or see Zap’s posters at the session tomorrow morning.(https://lnkd.in/gTavXvEj) And of course, we’ve still got plenty of miles left to go. Whether you’re a swimmer, cyclist or runner, we’re always looking for new Zap team members. Visit zapenergy.com/careers to check our openings.
