💡 Joining the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge makes good business sense. "Farmers in the countries where we operate struggle with very low yields - a missed opportunity that doesn’t have to be the case. With better access to basic inputs and knowledge, farming can become a very profitable business." 🗨️ We interviewed Stuart Morris, Director of the East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation, to discuss the company’s pledge and their reasons for joining us. ⬇️ Check it out and discover how you can join too: https://lnkd.in/drpBXqQx #Farmers #SDG2 #PrivateSector East-West Seed Rutger Groot Maaike Groot Brigit van Dijk - van de Reijt Joost Pekelharing Flip Van Koesveld sylvie desilles Sathiyabama Bhaskaran Swaroop Nanu Stuart C. 📺 We followed last week's insightful webinar on advancing nutrition in Africa by the Zero Hunger Coalition with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, the Shamba Centre for Food & Climate and SDG2 Advocacy Hub, and we welcome the debate on the role of the private sector in fighting hunger and malnutrition. 🙌 #RoadToKampala 🗣️ Tendai G. from the SUN Movement encouraged the private sector to align with national agendas to end hunger and malnutrition, facilitate the safe movement of food, partner with governments, and contribute financially or through technical assistance to nutrition efforts. As she rightly pointed out, some businesses are already introducing great innovations. 💡 The Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge offers businesses a platform to leverage their innovative ideas to combat hunger in their communities by pledging to invest in this cause. This can be done through financial commitments or by providing training and technical skills to farmers and vulnerable groups in agriculture. We have already reached more than 50 companies from around the world who have joined the Pledge. "Over the past 6 years in business, I realised that smallholder farmers, despite having farmlands, face challenges like accessing the market because the big players in the industry prefer larger farms. Smallholder farmers are left to sell at any price, whether profitable or not, just to offload their harvest. So, part of our profit goes toward helping build them up, and when I heard about the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge, it aligned with the work we've been doing on the ground. I'm a soul believer in social impact. You can't keep taking from the community you're sourcing from. It's your responsibility to uplift the community and leave it better than you found it." 🗨️ Janefrances Nkiruka Ighosewe, Founder and CEO of Something Lite, a women and youth-focused processing company in Lagos, Nigeria, is part of the Zero Hunger Pledge. 🌍 👏 She explains her social commitment, why she joined the Pledge, and the contribution small businesses can make through it. All companies are invited to join us and become more socially responsible toward the communities where they operate and do business. ➡️ More at https://lnkd.in/drpBXqQx #SocialImpact #ZeroHunger #Africa #PrivateSector Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Women Impacting Nigeria African Women in Animal Resources Farming & Agribusiness Network (AWARFA-N) Nigeria Chapter Nigerian Farming Magazine LEDA-NN Nutrition in Nigeria Private Sector Advisory Group Nigeria Nigeria Private Sector Alliance (NiPSA) Agricultural Agenda Nigeria Initiative (AANI) Community Allied Farmers Association of Nigeria Youth Farmers Nigeria https://lnkd.in/eCPppQus

Eggs are one of nature's most complete foods—rich in protein, vitamins and essential nutrients. According to the National Library of Medicine (NLM), providing a child with just one egg a day has been shown to reduce stunting rates by 47%. 💡 #WorldEggDay 🌍 In Africa, where 30.8% of children under five are stunted and one in five people is undernourished, eggs could be the new gold in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. 📑 Forbes presents three companies that are harnessing this potential and making a difference. ☀️ This is an example of private companies being socially responsible toward the communities where they operate and make their profit. The Zero Hunger Pledge is the platform for making such a commitment to end hunger.
