After unveiling 45 new product announcements this week, Zoom CEO Eric S. Yuan joined the show to share how he’s thinking about the future of work. We talked through how he prioritizes which features to build, his approach to rebuilding company culture, and what he’d do differently if he were starting Zoom today. I also got to ask a question I’ve wondered about for years—what early insight inspired him to start Zoom in the first place. A few highlights from our conversation: → What led Eric to start Zoom in 2011 He saw two things clearly: video would become the core of meetings (not screen sharing), and conferencing needed to work seamlessly across all devices, including mobile. Existing architecture couldn’t support that shift, so he knew it had to be rebuilt from the ground up. While engineers agreed, others didn’t—teaching him a lasting lesson: never ignore customer feedback or input from individual contributors. Staying close to both helps surface insights that drive progress. → Formula to prioritize the right features to build If you don’t have a formula, it’s almost impossible—to prioritize features. Zoom’s formula is: start with the problem statement. Customers often jump straight to solutions—“you should add this feature”—but they always remind engineers and product managers to discover the problem and root cause. Then, they work with customers to design and validate a solution—otherwise, every customer will ask for a different thing, and it becomes impossible to manage. → Moving beyond AI assistants  Eric envisions a two-step evolution: first, a personalized assistant powered by your own LLM, trained on your emails, chats, documents, and meetings; eventually, a more advanced version with knowledge literally downloaded from your brain (possibly requiring future breakthroughs in neuroscience) to replicate how you think and make decisions. In the future, you might assign your digital twin to attend meetings and act on your behalf. While most resources remain focused on near-term product development, Yuan is investing part of R&D into bringing this vision to life. More insights in the full episode: https://lnkd.in/dZJW86G9

🔎𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗜𝗧 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥 - AI in collaboration isn’t just about automation—it’s about making work more meaningful. At Enterprise Connect 2025, I sat down with Smita Hashim, Chief Product Officer at Zoom, to discuss how agentic AI is redefining how teams work. Zoom’s AI Companion was just the beginning—now, AI is stepping into a more active role, helping users schedule, organize, and streamline tasks just like a human assistant would. This conversation covers: ✔️ How agentic AI is making workflows more intuitive and proactive ✔️ Why AI should enhance human impact, not replace it ✔️ The real-world applications of Zoom’s AI in business, healthcare, and education 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘'𝗦 𝗠𝗬 𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬: The true power of AI isn’t in the technology itself—it’s in how it enables people to focus on what matters most. Zoom’s vision for AI is all about removing friction, improving connections, and amplifying human impact. The full conversation is now live. Zoom's latest announcement confirms they're doubling down on their "AI-first" strategy with significant agentic capabilities that takes the platform well beyond a video meeting tool. Here's what's coming to Zoom's AI Companion that marketers and users of the platform should know about: - Task Orchestration: The AI can now perform multi-step actions after meetings - scheduling follow-ups, generating documents, and executing action items automatically based on meeting content - Zoom Tasks: A dedicated tab launching this month that automatically detects action items and handles them without manual input - AI Studio: Coming in beta this spring, allowing creation of custom virtual agents for handling specific customer interactions (this is the game-changer IMO) - Real-time Documentation: Live notes during meetings and intelligent summaries, removing the "who's taking notes" burden Beyond these, there's clip generation for content creators, voice recording transcription, and even industry-specific implementations for healthcare and education. For those wanting enhanced features, Zoom is adding a $12/month Custom AI Companion add-on in April that includes small language models and custom avatars (potentially the "digital twin" their CEO hinted at last year). This evolution from passive meeting assistant to proactive partner represents a significant leap in meeting productivity. Instead of meetings generating more work, they'll now trigger automated execution. What meeting-related tasks would you most want an AI agent to handle for you? https://bit.ly/4l3eBs2 #ZoomAI #AIProductivity #MeetingEfficiency #DigitalTransformation #AIAgent #ProductivityTech
