Marc Wimmershoff, VP, Autonomy Software, has been at the forefront of autonomous vehicles (AVs) his entire career. Marc was first introduced to AV technology during university research. This experience sparked a lifelong interest in the intersection of hardware, software, and problem-solving. After watching AV research grow from a niche interest to a major field, Marc moved on to work with Tesla’s Autopilot before joining Zoox in 2015. Under his leadership, Zoox continues to scale our autonomous driving software stack while building the teams responsible for developing it. Zoox recently brought their vehicle to our Testcenter for automated driving for rigorous testing! 🌧️ By day and night, and under various weather scenarios, we explored how the vehicle responds to such things like: 🚨 Emergency vehicles with flashing lights and sirens 🏗️ Everyday situations like pedestrians crossing the road or navigating construction detours 🌧️ Different levels of rainfall—both in daylight and darkness Realistic, controlled testing environments like ours ensure that autonomous vehicles are ready for the complexity of real-life driving.
