35 years ago today, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Bay Area, collapsing parts of the Bay Bridge and Cypress freeway, and tragically claiming lives. As SF's disaster response hub, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center stands ready for anything—earthquake, fire, or flood. ZSFG staff are prepared to report to duty in a crisis. Are you ready? Chief of Emergency Medicine, Zuckerberg San Francisco General; Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine, UCSF
Honored to be part of this project
Mass shootings devastate us all, including the health professionals who spring into action to save the victims. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)'s AAMCNews talked to six extraordinary doctors about how those experiences affected them — in the moment of crisis, in the aftermath, and for the rest of their lives. Among them is Christopher Colwell, MD, FACEP, vice chair and chief of emergency medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) and Emergency Medicine at ZSFG endowed professor, of the University of California, San Francisco. Learn about Dr. Colwell's and fellow colleagues' powerful stories of tragedy, struggle, and resilience in this multimedia project: https://ow.ly/KiXx50THTqp

Thank you San Francisco General Hospital Foundation for recognizing our hospital’s Project REACH and the Hearing Screening Project who are tackling some of the most pressing health challenges in our community with this year’s Equity and Innovation Grant! The SFGH Foundation celebrated the teams today who shared the importance of the care they provide to our community. No matter a person’s situation, we are helping close the critical gap in #healthequity in our community, and more! “We’re meeting people where they are. And that is so essential!” shares Drs. Marissa Boeck, Joanna Eveland, and Hannah Decker with Project REACH which brings together whole-person care and on-the-ground innovations in surgical care to better serve ZSFG patients who are unhoused or experiencing housing instability. The Hearing Screening Project is expanding access to a simple yet essential test for an often overlooked and critical gap in healthcare: hearing loss in marginalized communities. At today’s event, Shuana Brodie, Nurse Practitioner for Otolaryngology and Alonn Ilan RN, MSN, Nurse Manager Surgical Specialty Clinics at ZSFG opened with a fitting quote from Helen Keller that encapsulates the core of the project - “Blindness separates people from things. Deafness separates people from people.” Congratulations to the teams and individuals involved in these efforts! Congratulations to our KPO Medical Director and Director of Operational Excellence, William Huen and Christopher Ross, on receiving their Level 3 Hoshin Kanri (Strategy Deployment) certification – representing an advanced understanding and application of the #HoshinKanri methodology, a strategic planning and deployment process that aligns ZSFG long-term goals with its daily activities! Will and Christopher’s certification in Hoshin Karin demonstrates their ability to drive strategic initiatives effectively, ensuring that the hospital remains focused on its vision while also addressing everyday emergencies and adapting to changes. We appreciate and applaud their skills in supporting the Executive Team in identifying key organizational goals, creating actionable plans to achieve them, and monitoring progress through metrics and regular reviews. Will and Christopher's role in our hospital’s strategic planning and deployment – leading cross-functional teams to solve complex problems using continuous improvement techniques at ZSFG – has helped enable us to meet our True North goals in numerous ways. This certification, conferred by Craig Vercruysse, MBA of Moss Adams, is another testament to Will and Christopher’s commitment to putting our ZSFG values into action with continuous improvement. Congratulations to both Will and Christopher! #LeanThinking #FutureOfWork #LearningOrganization #Leadership #LeanSixSigma #HoshinKanri #MossAdamsHealthcare

@ZSFGcare hosted an open house today for registered nurses who are interested in working at our hospital. Candidates met with ZSFG leaders and nursing staff as well as toured the Emergency Department, Med-Surg, Critical Care, Psychiatry, and Maternal Child Health units for an up-close look at the hospital teams and environment. ZSFG aims to be the employer of choice and is increasing nursing staff to ensure patients receive the best possible care. #RN #rnlife University of California, San Francisco San Francisco Department of Public Health

We are grateful to the teams often found behind the scenes at ZSFG. Our Environmental Services team of nearly 200 staff members walk every inch of our ZSFG campus every day. Whether they’re cleaning and disinfecting to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, collecting recyclables and trash, sweeping the hallways and hospital floors, managing the pest management program, polishing our 10,000+ windows and hundreds of handrails, ZSFG shines because of our EVS team that takes care of all the details. Our EVS team consistently provides a clean, safe and healthy environment to all patients, staff and visitors at the hospital. They take pride in the care they provide, and it shows in the work they do every day – prioritizing patient and staff safety and wellness in all they do. Thank you and happy #EVSWeek!
