The next carer we're spotlighting for #NationalCarersWeek is Tricia Brady from Virgin Media O2 Business. Tricia has been caring for her brother Joe since 2020, and has shared how our paid carers leave policy provides her with the flexibility to continue supporting him. 💙❤️ "I have worked for the business for almost 14 years and began to care for my brother Joe around four years ago. He'd been highlighted as vulnerable and had a diagnose of early Dementia and was a risk of becoming homeless. Our parents have both passed away, and I made the decision to support him in finding another home, and there starts my story. 🏠 He's lost the ability to look after himself, and I provide a 24-hour telephone system as well as in person support. The impact of the five paid days for carers leave is huge. I cannot afford to buy additional days due to my own circumstances, so this is no longer impedes on my own holiday entitlement. It also means if I need to attend a meeting or doctors/hospital appointments for him, I can arrange to be off for the full or half day." #TeamVirginMediaO2 #CarersLeave #FamilyFriendly

Best-selling author. Working with #Carertrusts & individuals to reduce feelings of #overwhelm and avoid #burnout. I use hands-on treatments and workshops to promote self-care as a priority and not just a nice to have.
In the busyness of your day do you find it challenging to find time for yourself? When I ran my Great Care Starts with You workshop for the unpaid carers that Carers Trust Solihull support, many of the carers struggled to see how they could make time in their busy day that they could call their own. During the workshop I got to know a little about each carer and was able to suggest things each could do to create time in their day which would allow them to do things that were just for them. Asking for help was a huge barrier and many carers were reluctant to ask for help. We discussed why asking for help was important and different ways of asking for help that they would feel comfortable doing. Use this link to read my blog post to read other ways unpaid carers can create me-time. DM me if you would like more information about the workshops and services I provide to support unpaid carers. #carerstrust #unpaidcarers #youmatter #mentalhealthawareness https://lnkd.in/e2q9EBry

This week is Carer’s Week. A week to highlight unpaid carers' challenges & recognise their contributions. Did you know that 1 in 5 people currently give someone unpaid care? In the last 10 years, funding for social care has not kept up with the demand. Making it harder for people to access care. So this means that people… - Pay more for their care - Go without the care they need - Or turn to family/friends for unpaid care So we wanted to highlight 2 of the biggest challenges unpaid carers face. 1️⃣ Financial strain. ↳ Many carers face financial difficulties due to the costs associated with caregiving. Such as medical expenses & transportation. And lost income from reduced working hours or leaving the workforce altogether. 2️⃣ Health concerns. ↳ It can be emotionally taxing, leading to stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. Which takes a toll on carers' physical and mental health. Increasing their risk of chronic health conditions & mental health issues. Carers need to be recognised for the difficulties they experience daily. And respected for all they are doing & given the support they need. So to all the amazing carers out there… Thank you! Your care & support makes a world of difference. 💙

Hey Everyone, Today, let's shine a light on an important topic that often goes unnoticed: carer burnout. As providers, it's crucial to recognize the immense dedication and sacrifice that carers make every day in caring for their loved ones. While we do this as our occupation, they do it out of genuine love and compassion, which makes their role even more challenging. Carers are the unsung heroes of our communities, tirelessly providing support and care to their loved ones without asking for recognition or reward. But the reality is that the demands of caregiving can take a toll – physically, emotionally, and mentally. That's why it's essential for us to be there to support carers in any way we can. Whether it's offering respite care, connecting them with support groups and resources, or simply lending a listening ear, every little bit helps. We must recognize that carer burnout is a real and valid concern, and it's our responsibility to do everything we can to prevent it. By supporting carers, we not only ensure the well-being of those they care for but also foster a more compassionate and resilient community as a whole. So, let's make it a priority to be there for our carers, just as they are always there for their loved ones. Together, we can make a difference and show our appreciation for the invaluable role they play in our lives. Cheers to supporting our unsung heroes! #carersmatter #buildingbetterculture #discrew

📊 Unveiling the Realities: Insights from the 'No Choice But to Care' Report 📊 This Carers Week 2024, a compelling new report titled 'No Choice But to Care' sheds light on the often unseen challenges faced by unpaid carers across the UK. Here are some crucial findings: A staggering 62% of current and former unpaid carers report that they had no choice but to assume their caregiving roles due to the lack of available care options. This represents about 10 million individuals who are stepping up in times of need. The impact of caring has significantly affected carers' lives, with notable negative effects reported on mental health (63%), physical health (53%), employment opportunities (48%), and financial stability (47%). Those who felt they had no choice in becoming carers, along with women and individuals aged 45-54, experience the most severe impacts. Additionally, 73% of the public believe that unpaid carers deserve greater support from the government, especially in terms of financial assistance and investments in social care. These statistics highlight a critical gap in our social care system and underscore the urgent need for change. Unpaid carers are the backbone of care in our communities, yet the personal costs are immense. It's time for action. As we reflect on these findings during Carers Week, let’s advocate for policies that provide the necessary support to those who give so much of themselves to care for others. Let’s work towards a future where no one has to choose between their health, their career, and caring for loved ones. Share this post to raise awareness and join the conversation on how we can better support our carers. They deserve our help, our respect, and our commitment to improving their lives. My passion is to work collaboratively with clients to make their interior design dreams a reality, combining functionality with looking awesome.
🌟 It's #CarersWeek! 🌟 Let's take a moment to celebrate the incredible dedication of unpaid carers. I know firsthand how vital their role is, having family members who have been & who still are unpaid carers. Their selfless commitment and strength are truly inspiring. Here's the essence of Carers Week from their website: WHAT IS CARERS WEEK? Carers Week is a yearly campaign that aims to highlight the challenges faced by carers, and recognise the outstanding contribution that unpaid carers make to their families, friends and communities up and down the UK. Anyone who looks after a family member or friend who has a mental or physical illness, a disability, an addiction, or requires additional support as they age, is a carer. Caring responsibilities can have a huge impact on the carer’s life, both day-to-day and long term, affecting relationships, health, finances, school and work. In some cases, the individuals involved might be unaware they’ve become a carer as the transition from short-term help to long-term care can sometimes be subtle. Therefore, another aim of Carers Week is to help people recognise if they’ve become an unpaid carer, signpost what help might be available, and encourage them to reach out for help when they need it. Though Carers Week focuses on carers in the UK, the challenges faced by carers are universal, even more so in low- and middle-income countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh and India, where the awareness and support of carers isn’t as strong as in the UK. #SupportCarers #UnsungHeroes #FamilyFirst Sam Palmer-Granville Dee Beckett (nee Patel) Claire Bicknell Rob Spence Adam Payne FInstLM Gemma Cox https://lnkd.in/ezJM2Aug

This week is about Awareness for Carers Week. Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. A carer can also be anyone who looks after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older. The impact of caring on all aspects of life from relationships and health to finances and work can be significant. Whilst many feel that caring is one of the most important things they do, its challenges should not be underestimated. Caring without the right information and support can be tough. It is vitally important that we recognise the contribution carers make to their families and local communities, workplaces and society, and that they get the support they need. Carers need to be recognised for the difficulties they are experiencing, respected for all they are doing, provided with information, and given the support they need to care safely. 'Putting carers on the map' is the theme for this year, where we want to make sure that the voices of carers are heard by politicians, employers, service providers, educational establishments, journalists and throughout our communities. We want caring to be made more visible, ensuring that carers feel seen and respected and that they can access the services and support that they need.# If you are a Carer or know someone that is, please give yourself credit for the hard work and efforts that you make everyday for those who are vulnerable. Not all hero's wear capes. #CarersAwarenessWeek #Carers #CatalystCareGroup #MentalHealth #Disabilities #Autism #Healthcare #Onefamilyatatime
