CEO at JITbase // We're on a mission to make the workforce more efficient and less stressed in manufacturing
It took me a while to fully understand the differences between existing planning systems in manufacturing: ERP, MES, MRP, APS... you name it. But what took me even longer was understanding why 𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 🤔 Instead, they use Excel. We actually interviewed dozens of supervisors with my team to fully understand. We finally understood: 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬. ❌ They are effective for planning the week or the month, not the day. They are not good at planning the day, because they lack information about manual interventions from the operators. We have been working for months in collaboration with Supervisors to finally offer them a tool to effectively schedule jobs and operators on machines. 🚀 This blog post summarizes our learnings: https://lnkd.in/ead7eZb7 #CNCmachining #DailyPlanning #JITbase #MachineShop #Industry40 #Planning #Scheduling #Machining #CNC

#episode 2 From Spreadsheets to Magic Buttons: A Tale of OTIF Triumph Automate production planning using excel Once upon a bustling factory floor, there lived a diligent Production Planning and Control (PPC) manager named Ram. Armed with spreadsheets and a steaming cup of coffee, Ram battled the daily chaos of production planning. The order fluctuations danced like mischievous sprites, and quality mismatches played hide-and-seek. Ram cracked the code of forecasting. With only data and Seasonal fluctuations as his trusty companions, he predicted demand with uncanny accuracy. Safety inventory? He had it down to a science. But alas, challenges persisted. The factory floor had a mind of its own, throwing curveballs at every turn. Ram's spreadsheets groaned under the weight of constant updates. Each dawn, Ram faced a Herculean task. Orders flowed in, production schedules shifted, and quality hiccups disrupted the delicate production balance. His calculator worked overtime, recalculating, adjusting, and recalibrating. But time slipped through his fingers like sand. The sun would set, and Ram would still be crunching numbers. One fateful morning, as the sun peeked over the assembly line, Ram had an epiphany. Why not automate the system? Why not let algorithms work with data? He learn #excel and #6sigma. The PPC manager’s manual toil transformed into elegant lines of code. And lo, the system sprang to life! Every day, like clockwork, it ingested orders, quality reports, and production schedules. It juggled priorities, optimized resources, and spat out revised plans. Ram sipped his coffee, watching the magic unfold. Spreadsheets retired, dashboards danced. On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) soared! #ppc #otif #automate #excel

🛠 Mastering Modern Production Planning & Scheduling At the speed of modern manufacturing, traditional tools like spreadsheets, whiteboards, and Kanban can no longer keep up. Efficient production scheduling requires real-time data and the ability to adapt quickly to unexpected changes. Why is this important? 📉 Manual Methods Fall Short: Traditional scheduling methods lead to delayed, error-prone decisions, creating bottlenecks and inefficiencies on the shop floor. 🔄 Dynamic Adjustments: Modern solutions leverage real-time data to continuously assess operations, allowing for quick adjustments when downtimes or high-priority orders disrupt the plan. ⚙ Optimizing Resources: With data-driven insights, manufacturers can not only improve on-time delivery but also enhance overall operational efficiency by eliminating manual data entry and siloed systems. If you are relying on outdated tools, how much capacity are you leaving on the table? How much could you improve On-Time Delivery? 📖 Read more about taking a modern approach to production scheduling: https://lnkd.in/gq-by2iW #ProductionScheduling #OperationalEfficiency #ManufacturingExcellence

Operations Manager @ Freixenet Copestick | Managing Logistics, Excel, Understanding, WMS, Excel Dashboard
Steps to Create a spider diagram for Warehouse Operations (also known as a radar chart) for warehouse efficiency involves identifying key factors that contribute to the overall efficiency of warehouse operations. Below is a textual representation of a spider diagram with key categories and sub-factors that could be considered: A. Spider Diagram for Warehouse Efficiency Central Concept: Warehouse Efficiency 1A. Operational Process - Inventory Management - Order Picking Methods - Packaging Processes - Returns Processing 2A. Technology Integration - Warehouse Management System (WMS) Usage - Barcode and RFID Scanning - Data Analytics for Performance 3A. Space Utilization - Layout Optimization - Stacking and Rack Systems - Aisle Width Management 4A. Labor Management - Staff Training and Development - Labor Productivity Metrics - Shift Scheduling and Management 5A. Process Optimization - Lean Practices - Continuous Improvement Initiatives - Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) 6A. Energy Efficiency - Lighting (LEDs) - HVAC Systems - Equipment Energy Consumption - Sustainability Practices 7A. Customer Satisfaction - Order Accuracy - Shipping Speed - Communication and Updates - Returns Handling Quality B. Visual Representation - To create the actual spider diagram, you would typically plot these categories on the axes of a radial graph. Each axis would represent one of the factors listed above, and you would score each on a scale (e.g., 1 to 10) based on current performance levels. This would create an outward shape that visually represents strengths and weaknesses in warehouse efficiency. C. Implementation To actually draw a spider diagram: - Use graphing software (Excel, Google Sheets, or specialized tools like Tableau). - Plot the categories on the axes. - Use a scoring system for each category based on assessments or KPIs. - Connect the points to visualize the overall efficiency footprint. A spider diagram can help in identifying areas that need improvement and can be a useful tool during strategic planning for warehouse operations. A lot of companies are tired of dealing with the limitations of Excel to run their machine shop, but aren't sure which tool(s) are right for them. Manual data entry and errors are the least of the problems. 🚫 Excel can't help with dynamic decision-making. 🥷🏻 It can't do on-the-fly advanced data visualization. Machine shops that want to do more with their existing equipment should take a look at JITbase to take their manufacturing operation to the next level. #manufacturingmachineshops #efficiency #productivity
