Tech leaders call to pause the further development of #AI systems more powerful than #GPT4. This news really surprised me this morning! „We call on all AI labs to immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4. (…) Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks, and we must ask ourselves: Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth? Should we automate away all the jobs, including the fulfilling ones? Should we develop nonhuman minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us? Should we risk loss of control of our civilization?“ What do you think - do we need a pause? https://lnkd.in/gwRvadC4

Really surprising, indeed. If that had been an appeal from the EU, I would have understood it better 😂 I would have guessed that the hunt for the next stage of development has just begun. How realistic do you think it is, Oliver, for the tech companies to pause the further development? 🤔

We don’t need a pause, Oliver, we need to catch up with all these questions on the economics and ethics and the social repercussions and labor market implications etc. Economists, politicians, philosophers, sociologists need to catch up to understand and then to explain what this development could mean and will mean depending on which strategies players are taking. What if we have multiple AIs running on multiple scenarios? Good ones, bad ones, evil ones, careless ones? How can we ensure a fair and equitable distribution of gains and pains? Etc etc
