Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly transforming the media ecosystem and the world at large, reshaping our culture and conversations. While there is great potential in this technology, without intentional consideration into its potential risks, it can permanently muddy the historical record and shatter the trust that viewers have in Documentary. With these existential concerns in mind, the Archival Producers Alliance –in conversation with hundreds of professionals in the industry– developed Best Practices guidelines for use of this revolutionary technology in documentary film.
