With TM FAST Module increase Machine Performance The TM FAST technology module offers extremely fast interlinking in the S7-1500/ET 200MP system. The user can program the function of the TM FAST, and it allows internal cycle times of up to 20 nanoseconds. The S7-1500 TM FAST user-programmable technology module provides the user the possibility to program the function of the module application-specifically. To this purpose, an application is created using the Intel® Quartus® Prime engineering tool chain from Intel, and this application is loaded into the TM FAST. There, the program is processed in an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). The user has direct access to the digital inputs and outputs.

To bring a sort of AMR robot from nothing to functional prototype you can demo, one way or another you're spending 1M$+ (with current state of world). Depending on scope, it's a little less or much much more. Why? Engineers lack the complete skillset to deliver on the project, and so they need to learn through the project - increasing the cost of development and adding unknown levels of risk. You might say - well of course you're going to learn skills on the job, and I would agree. However in most trades you have apprentices, journeymans and masters. The job will have someone who can guide, mentor, coach and correct those who are learning. In R&D projects, I often don't see this. You might have an ME who knows how to design a gearbox, but doesn't know how to bring up a motor. You might have a full stack SW engineer that's written many websites but never spoken to a firmware interface. The gap in knowledge is workable, but the problem is there's often not someone who can bring it all together technically - eg the systems engineer. So what ends up happening is different domains try to self teach to cover the gaps. This self taught path, while necissary due to the gap in team knowledge, is costly, time consuming and adds risk to the project delivery. If you want to save substantual pain, reduce stress, reduce development costs and reduce the time of delivery - find and invest in a systems engineer on your project. They will cost you much more, but they'll save you far more in the long run.

Execution beats Ideas, really? I never fully understood what this meant until I got into the business of designing and manufacturing complex mobile robots, like Gideon ’s Trey AI forklift (pictured here). Yes, it's very difficult to create great design. But manufacturing that design is many orders of magnitude harder. Deep tech hardware founders: if there's one thing for you to obsess about from day one, it's the setup and execution of your manufacturing program. First, it’s about finding experienced and passionate people to design and run the program. They will help you design a robust process that can deliver consistently. That process then has to scale as the business grows. Everything depends on it. It's one thing to prototype a few machines to experiment with. But it's a whole different universe to set up for a serial production. You'll face all the nightmares you can imagine – and many more you won't be prepared for. Material and component sourcing issues. Quality nightmares. Integration-level hurdles. Price volatilities. Cross-border logistics conundrums. Talent hiring and training challenges. Especially in places with no manufacturing knowledge. It's why I have such huge respect for people who have done it / are doing it practically from scratch. Obsolescence is a design choice.  We're so used of thinking about hardware tech evolution in terms of "new" product releases that we forget that companies are voluntarily driving this paradigm to maximize their profit. Yet we could imagine another models for companies, where modular products could be easily repaired or upgraded with new technologies. Of course, this comes with a cost: designers have more constraints and will have to anticipate future developments. Focus cannot only be aesthetics and miniaturization. But can't we find attractive designs that's both aesthetic and functional? That's the balance we're trying to find at Mekanika. Our machines are above all designed for modularity: nothing is glued or welded, we use standard parts wherever possible, and any component can be easily replaced or repaired. Even our first-generation machines can be upgraded with our latest laser add-on. Our users assemble their machines and gain valuable knowledge about their operation and maintenance. How does it work financially? Because it creates a long term relationship with our users. We don't lock them in, yet they come back every time we offer something new. And if ethics and business are not convincing enough, here's another reason to change your design process: regulations are most probably coming. And for companies, unless you prefer paying lawyers to circumvent upcoming European regulations, you'll have to embrace this much needed new paradigm.

In order to measure image chromatic distortion between 1/8 and ½ a pixel, we needed to measure image features one order of magnitude smaller: We achieved 0,01 to 0,03 pixel ... In order to prove the amount of bias in an image, we used image compression as a metric: 4 bias sources added together amount to 1/3 of lost image compression. One third of the compressed image file is bias. In order to show how bad telemetry was, we showed how image scale accuracy could be made more accurate, 10e-5 to 10e-10 m scale accuracy improvement, 5 digits more, by removing one single bias source, there are 3 more at least. In doing so, the image center moves 3 pixels, and the aim shifts... We can prove our approach retains true object geometry, its imposed in the math formulation we use. Our approach leads to the only missing knowledge in #digitalimaging: How to model a zooming lens. ISO (International Standard Organization) identified this very specific gap in technology as THE missing factor slowing adoption of what is already the second most deployed digital technology after the microchip.
