"Why does your footage look black and white?" Most of the time when I show clients footage, I like to add a "color grade" When cinematographers shoot video, we tend to capture images in a "flat picture profile", which literally means that the image is flat! If you "edit fairly well" with DaVinci Resolve, you do not need Adobe Premiere. I attempted to switch to Resolve from Premiere and I couldn't because they didn't program the functions I require for my Muscle Memory 🦸‍♂️ which makes it effortless for me to edit. Since you don't HAVE any Muscle Memory, stay in Resolve because you're going to have to use it for Color Correction anyway, plus it does editing, plus it does audio mixing. A lot of the posts I see now are from people crying 😭 because they can't properly roundtrip footage from Premiere to Resolve for color and back. It's better for you to begin and end inside of Resolve, even if you end up sending files to another Resolve user for Sweetening (color / graphics / sound) ==== The reason why companies are asking you if you know Premiere is because they don't trust you. 🤷‍♂️😂 Everybody Knows that NOBODY who has ever walked this planet has ever been able to tell whether a finished program was edited in Premiere, FCP 🤮, Resolve, Media Composer 🗑️, d-Vision, Media 100 or any other program. THERE IS NO SIGNATURE from software! 🤣🤦‍♂️ So if they're asking you what you use, it's because they don't trust YOU to finish the program and deliver it to them. Most of these bogus "job listings" 😂🤡 want you to not only be the editor but the music mixer, color corrector, videographer, graphic artist... 😴 If you're going into a situation where they ALREADY have a Premiere workflow, it makes sense that they want YOU to be able to work with what they already use. If they're hiring you to complete a project for them, it isn't their business what software you utilize. 🤷‍♂️ Ask a potential client what their workflow is and figure out whether YOU can participate in that or not with the software that YOU are proficient in.

I believe a standout quality of an amazing video, movie, or advertisement is sound design Every piece of audio for this video was added AFTER it was shot - Sound effects I gathered from YouTube, Epidemic Sounds, and Adobe stock. I purposefully left out music to convey deeper clarity for the individual SFX added 🎤 Sound effect benefits: 1. Atmospheric sound effects: I went on a deep search for the best sound like gusts of wind, oceanic ambiance, footsteps on dirt, crashing waves, and seagulls to create a sense of immersion for the viewer 🌊 2. Risers + whooshes: These SFX sound bites are used to convey excitement and anticipation in audiovisual productions such as movie trailers. 📽 - Risers are sound effects characterized by a gradual increase in pitch, volume, and intensity over time -Whooshes are utilized to emphasize video movement and/or speed. An example of a whoosh is found when the montage of shots cut to my girlfriend staring off into the distance Cheers if you made this far into my rant! 😊

Sean Baker just won the Palm d'Or - and that should give all indie filmmakers hope. I have been a fan of Sean Baker's commitment to getting his films made no matter the hurdles, especially the lack of budget. Many people have never heard of him. Most people probably haven't seen his films. The most notable film that he has made that probably has the widest audience viewership is The Florida Project. His SIXTH feature film. His first four films range in budgets from $3,000 to a couple hundred thousand. Before The Florida Project, his most talked about and recognized film was Tangerine which he filmed on an iPhone5s with a crew of no more than 6. He was guaranteed a budget of $100,000 from the Duplass brothers to make whatever film he wanted. He didn't want to raise money from anywhere else so him and his team set out to make yet another film on a micro budget with an unknown cast for Tangerine. Then his next two "bigger" budget films The Florida Project and Red Rocket where made for $2MM and $1MM. With Willem Dafoe casted in The Florida Project. Besides Willem Dafoe, Sean Baker casts unknown actors, often times people he just meets or finds online - that aren't even actors. At 53 years old with his 8th feature film Sean Baker wins the biggest film festival prize in the world. There is no right way! Make the films you want to make. Tell the stories you want to tell. So many people will tell you how things SHOULD be done or they will tell you what CAN'T be done. Only take advice that will help you and ignore the rest. If you can't get financing, if you can't find investors, if you can't find a known cast - what can you do. Figure out ways to make it happen. Sometimes the best ways to do that is to collaborate with like minded people. And ask questions. Learn from where you can. Create, collaborate, and learn more. If you do it enough, eventually someone somewhere will notice and that may just be the thing to get you to the next step. There is no right way.
