24/25 Anticipated Leave (First Semester) - English Teacher - High School

The Chappaqua Central School District is a community of six schools serving approximately 3500 students in Westchester County. We are seeking excellent educators who can provide high-quality instruction and build authentic, supportive relationships with students. We are committed to hiring an inclusive teaching staff to create warm, joyful, student-centered, and welcoming schools.

Chappaqua CSD is looking for a thoughtful and knowledgeable educator to serve in the anticipated leave position of English Teacher at Horace Greeley High School from 8/29/24 - 1/15/25.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Develops and actualizes a learning environment consistent with school district vision, goals and objectives.
  • Familiar with NYS ELA Standards and uses them for unit and lesson plan development.
  • Strong, broad knowledge of fiction and non-fiction literature, both classic and contemporary.
  • Thoughtfully centers equity in the daily learning experiences to support the students' awareness of identity and inclusivity.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops clear, engaging, and relevant lesson plans that appropriately challenge students and demonstrate current educational pedagogy.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how to implement project-based learning, teach to various learning styles, and differentiate instruction.
  • Exhibits an inclusive philosophy where all students are capable of succeeding regardless of differences and challenges.
  • Exudes a joy of learning and an ability to work with students of all skill and ability levels.
  • Experience with social and emotional learning and building a positive classroom culture that focuses on the development of the whole child (knowledge of RULER is a plus).
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and inquiry based learning experiences.
  • Committed to student-centered and student-driven learning experiences with opportunities for student voice and choice.

Certifications/Experience

  • New York State Certification as an English Education Teacher Grades 7 - 12.
