Substitute Pay Information
Certifed/Licensed
Teachers and Instructional Aides:
$120.00 a day for the first ten days
$150.00 a day after ten days for the same teacher*
Non-Certified/Licensed
$110.00 a day for the first ten days
$130.00 a day after ten days for the same teacher*
- Teacher and aide substitutes will receive back pay at the long-term rate after working ten consecutive days in the same long-term assignment, and continue at the long-term rate throughout the remainder of that assignment.

Primary Purpose
In the absence of the regular classroom teacher or instructional aide, uphold/provide appropriate learning activities, experiences and classroom management for students to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications
Education/Certification/Other Requirements:
- High School diploma is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Texas Teaching Certificate is preferred.
- Knowledge of subject areas assigned
- Ability to maintain effective classroom management
- Ability to instruct students
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff
- Must pass a fingerprint-based background check.
- Must attend substitute teacher orientation
- Must be 21 years of age or older to sub at middle & high school
- 18-20 years of age, eligible for elementary campuses, only.
Classroom Management and Instruction
- Follow established substitute arrival and dismissal protocols
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
- Follow the daily lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher or designee
- Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes in a regular school day
- Follow the established classroom discipline management plan, maintain order in the classroom, and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations per instructions provided by the regular teacher
- Protect and respect the confidentiality of the students being supervised
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials and facilities
- Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
- Dismiss students according to instructions
- Evaluate and provide feedback on student progress during instruction
- Immediately report to campus administration cases of injury or illness, or disruptions due to behavior or disciplinary situations
- Document lessons presented and activities completed to be reviewed by the regular classroom teacher upon his/her return
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Demonstrate human relations skills that are professional, ethical and responsible
- Promote the school in a positive manner within the school and community
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The ability to move from one location to another throughout the building and/or the district is required. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Other physical activities may be required depending on assignment. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Maintain emotional control under stress.

Please Note: Although the district reasonably expects substitutes to work at least 10 hours per week, the district does not guarantee that substitutes will receive 10 hours every week. The district’s need for substitutes varies from week to week. In some weeks, substitutes may not receive any assignments. Similarly, the district understands that some weeks individuals who are substitutes may not be able to accept assignments due to illness or other personal reasons.
