Position: Accountant II Overview: As an Accountant II, you will be responsible for managing key accounting functions with a focus on sales tax, payroll, account reconciliations, and process enhancements. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. Key Responsibilities: Sales Tax and State Filings:
Prepare and review monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns for various states, including researching state-specific requirements.
Generate annual reports for multi-state income taxes.
Conduct in-depth research and analysis of state tax laws, nexus regulations, and business registration/reporting obligations.
Oversee the submission of annual reports for multiple states and entities.
General Ledger Management:
Reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis, addressing discrepancies and providing detailed explanations.
Process monthly recurring and closing entries, such as prepaid expenses and expense allocations.
Prepare schedules for year-end audits and assist with financial audits.
Analyze account details to identify issues and suggest corrective actions.
Fixed Asset Management:
Review and reconcile fixed assets monthly in line with company policies.
Prepare tangible property tax returns for multiple states and year-end audit schedules for fixed assets.
Maintain lease files and support year-end financial audits.
Payroll Support and Review:
Oversee bi-weekly payroll to ensure accurate employee payments and provide backup support for payroll processing.
Generate payroll reports and assist the HR department with related accounting tasks.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited institution.
At least five years of accounting experience, particularly in sales tax, payroll, and account reconciliations.
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong ability to analyze reconciliation results and make necessary adjustments.
Solid understanding of accounting principles and their practical application.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX and ADP Payroll is a plus.
Proven experience in identifying and implementing process improvements.
