Job Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for assigned accounting/finance functions. Provides backup & training, assists with financial reporting, planning and budgeting, auditing processes by analyzing financial statements and reports, developing financial models, and performing research/analysis on a monthly basis. Performs special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accounting transactions as required to maintain the general ledger. Includes journal entries, transaction processing, invoicing and monthly reconciliations. Ensure proper classification, coding and functionalization of transactions by reviewing other team members’ work. Provide research on a regular & ad hoc basis.
  • Manage month-end close process and prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Manage day-to-day transactions and accounting:
    • Maintain working knowledge of Accounts Payable, Receipting and Payroll processing and be able to provide guidance, management and back-up for staff, as needed.
    • Payroll and payroll tax reporting, research and reconciliation.
    • Prepare monthly revenue and operating expense reports compared to budget. Research and report on variances. Assist budget owners with mitigating variances.
    • Manage all general ledger account activity.
  • Assist with calendar and fiscal year-end processes.
    • Manage the 1099 filing process.
    • Manage expense reporting software and process.
    • Participate in interim & annual audits by preparing work papers and schedules for external auditors as required. Assist with providing additional information to external auditors as requested by supervisor.
    • Prepare 990 work papers for filing.
    • Prepare corporate and state charitable filings.
    • Assist with annual budget process and analysis.
    • Assist with managing general liability insurance including: application, payment tracking, research and analysis.
    • Prepare, submit and track annual dues packages for Affiliates.
    • Collaborates with Affiliate Services staff to issue annual scholarships. Maintain scholarship accounts.
    • Update accounting procedures, as needed.
    • Suggest and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets.
    • As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategically minded Senior Financial Analyst to join our finance team.

  • Accounting or finance Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience.
  • Experience with AP, AR, payroll, month-end close process, financial statement preparation, budgets, and analysis.
  • Experience with not-for-profit accounting a plus.
  • Experience with grant accounting and financial reporting a plus.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including working successfully in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgements/decisions.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology - Windows Office Suite including word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet. Experience with accounting software. MIP Non-Profit Fund Accounting system a plus.
  • Must be reliable and extremely trustworthy with the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent project management skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize work and resources while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to present an overview or detailed financial information to a non-financial audience with demonstrated ability to support other departments within the company by coordinating training and information sessions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
