Accounting Manager / Office Manager

The Accounting manager is a key member of the accounting organization and reports to the regional CFO. He/she has the primary day-to-day responsibility for accounting related activities for the company.

Position Description Summary

The management duties for the Accounting Manager include overseeing accounting, cash-flow management, job costing, compliance, credit. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to work closely with and support other departments (marketing, operations, executive management, human resources, etc.) to foster a team environment and achieve financial results. Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Accounting, Cash Management, and Corporate Finance Competence. Fundamental accounting knowledge, cash management skills, and the ability to manage the financial function are required. Importantly, understanding Job costing and making sure Job-related work in progress and billings are done timely along with WIP accounting. The right candidate must know how the numbers are generated and be able to communicate with managers, stakeholders, and others effectively. Accuracy, consistency, and timeliness are critical.
  • Excel and Sage Intacct. The Accounting Manager will be highly technical and skillful in the use of Excel and Sage Intacct. He/she must know how to access the QBE database using off-the-shelf tools and format that data into useful management information. Practical, hands-on experience using the advanced functions of Excel or Access is a must.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn payroll processing.
  • Basic Business Knowledge, including Strong Understanding of Company Oper­ations. The right candidate will understand business fundamentals, our Company’s base operations, and our business model. He/she must be very analytical.
  • Management Skills. The Accounting Manager will demonstrate good management and people skills. The Accounting Manager must earn and hold the respect and support of the financial team, be a good motivator, and be able to communicate and share information as necessary.

We believe that an Accounting Manager’s knowledge of the Company, its resources, and the numbers is critical in formulating a plan to secure the Company’s future.
  • Communication Skills. The Accounting Manager possess the ability to effectively communicate to all key constituents verbally and in writing. The Accounting Manager will prepare and support meaningful financial information for company managers to run their departments more effectively. From identification and tracking of KPIs to specific dashboards, the Accounting Manager must be able to effectively articulate and deliver timely needed information.
  • Strong Work Ethic. The Accounting Manager will have a strong work ethic and understand that certain periods of time require greater work effort. During these times, the Accounting Manager must be willing to work longer hours. Consequently, hard work and discipline are essential. Someone who is interested in only working eight-hour days will not accomplish the objectives.
  • Reliability. The Accounting Manager will work reliably under pressure to produce timely, accurate information and willing to do whatever is necessary to bring about results is invaluable.

Main Responsibilities

Maintain a transparent management monitoring system dashboard providing near-real time key metrics of the firm. He/she will maintain dashboards to monitor the critical operations and variables of company performance and ensure that all departments are coordinating together.

Manage accounting, finance, forecasting (including cash-flow forecasting), job costing, compliance, and human resources (personnel) including base and incentive compensation discussions with the HR manger. Assist with payroll as needed.

Provide executive management with information on the financial implications of business activities. On an ongoing basis, help safeguard the financial health of the company.

Ensure quality, training, and performance of Accounting group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts, and recommendations for financial reporting improvement measures.

Be proactive, direct, and oversee all aspects of the Accounting team, and Job Management functions of the organization.

Provide accurate job costing and profitability analysis. Provide the reporting to ensure profit, gross margin, and capital requirements are met.

Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for HR, financial, and tax reporting.

Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Regional CFO.

Qualifications And Requirements

BS in Accounting or Finance required; CPA candidate is a plus.

7+ years in progressively responsible financial management roles; at least 5 of those years in a senior role strongly preferred.

Experience in utilizing accounting packages and tools that include Sage Intaact, Microsoft Office, CRM, and other industry programs.

Power user of Excel, including practical knowledge of how to utilize advanced functionality.

Experience with construction management and/or insurance related reimbursement programs including Xactimate, and other project management and cost estimation packages.

Experience as a senior for companies with $15 million to $30 million annual revenue a plus.

Demonstrated ability to work alone, be self-governing, and responsible for accomplishment of the company mission without need for daily coaching or prompting from the Regional CFO.

Experienced in insurance, licensing, bonding, taxes, and other regulatory requirements is preferred.
