As an Admin Support within the Columbia County Health Department, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourages all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. The use of wellness breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their wellness goals. A maximum of 30-minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in wellness activities, generally in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

Job Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of general secretarial, clerical, and administrative support functions/processes or a few specialized or essential clerical functions in support of a unit or office and related personnel. May enter data and/or process documents and records. The work includes operating standard office equipment. Work is performed under the close supervision of a clerical or administrative supervisor.

Completes tasks and assignments associated with administrative support functions (ie,licensure, personnel, purchasing, records management, inventory, or similar function)

  • Provides clerical support such as incidental typing, filing, ordering supplies, and sorting mail
  • Provides clerical support within assigned functional area (ie processing/transactions, review of applications, scheduling training, scheduling facilities maintenance, reconciling financial records, assessing/collecting fees for a program, generating rep
  • Provides general clerical support to an office, to include such tasks as data entry/maintenance, copying/distributing documents and materials, maintaining record-keeping and filing systems, etc
  • Provides secretarial and administrative support to an upper-level manager
  • Uses independent judgment and initiative to perform administrative, clerical and secretarial duties in support of an individual employee or group of employees
  • Receives additional training, as required, to gain full proficiency and experience in all areas

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and ability to perform basic office functions and computer related duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize work, and keep track of details. Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, clients, and vendors. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus. Familiarity with office software (Microsoft Office), etc. Capability to handle unexpected issues and find solutions promptly. Accuracy in handling data, scheduling, and documentation. Professional and courteous interaction with clients and colleagues. Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines. Skill in handling sensitive information with discretion. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and tasks. Ability to work well in a team environment and support various team members. Previous experience verifying insurance, scheduling appointments.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.

The candidate selected for this position may be subject to pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
