BallotWise Ambassador Position Overview


BallotWise is a website tool/app designed to empower voters with the information they need to make informed decisions. As an Ambassador for BallotWise, you will play a key role in mobilizing voters and driving political engagement in your community. You will represent BallotWise at either the regional or local (campus) level, and lead the formation of a local team dedicated to promoting informed voter participation. Your efforts will focus on building trust within your region, raising awareness of critical political issues, and fostering a collaborative environment that encourages community-driven civic engagement.


Responsibilities


The specific responsibilities are dependent on whether you are an ambassador in your region or on your campus. However, the general responsibilities are as follows:


  • Team Formation & Leadership: Recruit, train, and lead a team of local volunteers who will work alongside you to carry out BallotWise initiatives. Delegate tasks and empower team members to take ownership of various outreach and engagement activities.
  • Outreach & Engagement: Work with your team to actively engage regional and/or local communities through local events, town halls, and social media, ensuring a broad and deep understanding of political issues and candidates.
  • Voter Education: Coordinate with your team to distribute BallotWise educational materials, host informational sessions, and provide resources via the BallotWise app, helping voters make informed decisions.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and oversee events such as voter registration drives, candidate forums, and debates that are relevant to regional interests and concerns, leveraging your team’s strengths and networks.
  • Gathering Feedback: Lead your team in gathering feedback from community members about their concerns, preferences, and barriers to voting, and report findings to the BallotWise team.
  • Collaboration: Facilitate partnerships between your team and local organizations, clubs, and groups to extend the reach of BallotWise initiatives and create a unified regional effort to increase voter turnout.
  • Advocacy: Guide your team in promoting BallotWise’s mission and values, ensuring that regional communities understand the importance of their vote in shaping local and national policies.


Expectations


  • Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per week, with increased engagement closer to election dates. You’ll need to manage your time and your team’s efforts effectively.
  • Communication: Maintain regular updates with the BallotWise team, providing progress reports, community feedback, and team developments.
  • Leadership: Demonstrate strong leadership skills by motivating and guiding your team, fostering a collaborative and energetic environment for civic engagement.
  • Creativity: Bring innovative ideas to engage regional or local community and make political participation appealing and accessible.
  • Adaptability: Be responsive to the unique needs of your community and, tailoring your team’s efforts to maximize impact.
  • Initiative: Proactively seek out opportunities to expand the reach of BallotWise in your community and motivate peers to participate in civic activities.


Who We Are Looking For


  • Residents of swing or undecided states with a strong connection to their region and a passion for community organizing OR current undergraduate or graduate students passionate about politics, civic engagement, and voter education who are well-connected within the campus community.
  • Individuals with experience in leadership roles, grassroots organizing, or community outreach, who can inspire and manage a team.
  • Excellent communicators who can effectively lead a team and collaborate with various stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with experience in event planning or student leadership roles.


Pay


This is an unpaid volunteer and internship opportunity, but you get to work with an amazing group of undergraduates and recent graduates from top schools, like Harvard, Stanford, MIT, and NYU, on launching this website and doing outreach.


Location


This is a remote internship based in the United States.
