CBR is the oldest and most respected comic book culture website in the world. It is the internet’s first and final stop for nerd culture, news, commentary and community.

Our editorial team is looking for writers to create fun, informative, and engaging Anime & Manga Reviews that our discerning audience demands, with the eye-catching aesthetic they crave. The selected candidate will have tremendous career growth and internal development opportunities within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Are you a verified Metacritic, Open Critic, or Rotten Tomatoes reviewer and/or do you have a Google Knowledge panel? Please list all below. Only candidates with at least one of these four profiles will be considered for the critic role
  • A passion for anime & manga, writing reviews, and a drive to grow within the industry
  • Broad working knowledge of Anime and Manga, including:
    • Dragon Ball
    • One Piece
    • Naruto
    • Bleach
    • Avatar/Korra
    • Studio Ghibli
    • Sailor Moon
    • Isekai
    • Pokémon
    • One Punch Man
    • Jujutsu Kaisen
  • Up to date with new anime and manga
  • The ability to analyze content and pull directly from the source material to back up claims
  • A sharp eye for grammatical details
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Ability to write high-quality articles with swift turn-around times
  • Comfortable working in an entirely virtual environment
  • Should possess a general understanding of anime culture and strong research skills

Responsibilities

  • Keep up to date with new anime and manga, watching episodes or reading chapters as soon as they drop in order to turn in reviews that same day
  • Write a minimum of 3 reviews (1,400 words for Anime episodes, 800 words for Manga chapters) per week in CBR’s house style (following the requisite training)
    • Reviews will be assigned based on each writer’s expertise and CBR’s needs
  • This will include fact-checking, formatting, linking, and image sourcing
  • Accept and apply any/all feedback received by the editorial team
  • Communicate openly and actively with the editorial team
