The School of Health is a home for scholars and students to work collaboratively across disciplines and across the university to address human health and well-being from various perspectives — health care and health delivery systems, science, policy, law, economics and the humanities — to achieve a deeper understanding of the interconnections among the most challenging issues of our time, and to find solutions.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs works closely with dedicated faculty and staff and comprises a dynamic Student Academic Affairs team that is passionate and committed to facilitating student success in a values-based, rigorous, and interdisciplinary educational environment. Anchored in the Jesuit value of Cura Personalis, the Assistant Dean facilitates the holistic learning and growth of their students throughout their time on the Hilltop. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Academic Advising

  • Serve as primary academic adviser to an identified population of students which may include both undergraduate and graduate students, connecting students to proper resources across campus and within SOH to facilitate their academic and personal growth and development.
  • Maintain accurate student degree progression documents which include preparing accurate plans of study and curriculum worksheets that match information found in the graduate and undergraduate bulletins and in the electronic degree audit system.
  • Approve students’ registration and develop four-year plans with assigned students, tracking assigned students’ degree progression to ensure timely graduation.
  • Clear students annually for graduation, connecting them to resources on campus related to post-graduation employment and graduate degree programs.
  • Maintain data on assigned students including, but not limited to, graduation rates, transfer rates, and post-Georgetown employment and graduate school acceptance rates, as well as accurate enrollment counts and future enrollment projections.

New Student Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Lead the application reading and review process for a defined population of prospective SOH students, meeting with prospective students and families in-person and remotely to field questions about degree programs and academic life on-campus.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and e-mails from prospective students and parents, attending university and school recruitment activities including GAAP weekends and accepted student open houses.
  • Assist in planning and participate in new student and family orientation activities.
  • Connect prospective students and families with current students, faculty, and other university offices when appropriate, preparing transfer credit evaluations.

Departmental Liaison

  • Regularly attend departmental meetings and one-on-one meetings with department chair and faculty members as requested.
  • Advise departmental faculty and staff about university policies and procedures, providing regular updates to faculty about changes in university processes.
  • Provide enrollment numbers and student data upon request, advising the department about degree progression feedback from students.
  • Serve on ad hoc department committees and participate in new department initiatives as necessary, assisting the department chair and program coordinator in providing enrollment projections for course scheduling.

Liaison to University Initiatives and Offices

  • Represent SOH on multiple campus wide committee initiatives and/or serve as a liaison to multiple university offices including, but not limited to: Pre-health Studies & Early Assurance Program, Center for Multicultural Affairs, Office of Global Education, Academic Resource Center, Athletics, Family Weekend, New Student Orientation, Senior Class programming, Registrar’s Office, and Career Services.
  • Provide regular updates to academic affairs teams about programs and initiatives implemented by liaison committees and offices, assuming leadership role on projects as needed.
  • Regularly communicate and partner with advising deans from other schools to ensure consistency of academic processes across the university.
  • Manage multiple internal school processes which may include, but are not limited to: academic appeals; bulletin, handbook, and publications updates.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's degree in Higher Education or a related field preferred
  • 3 years of full-time advising experience with direct experience advising college students
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and respond to ever-changing environments comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with various data management systems, including: Banner/Cognos, and SalesForce CRM
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and precise attention to detail

Pay Range

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
