This versatile editor will edit a range of work for our website, our newsletters and our awards magazine, The Envelope. Subjects may include movies, TV, books or fine arts. Experience editing content related to Oscars and Grammys races is a plus, as is the ability to navigate the Hollywood publicity world with skill, savvy and professionalism.
The editor will build freelance articles in our content management system and should be comfortable communicating on Slack with members of our newsroom, including art directors, photo editors and the copy desk. This position is based in California but can be done remotely. The position will require flexible hours and occasional weekend duty.
Requirements
- A minimum of five years of editing experience
- Excellent line-editing skills with a focus on sharp story angles and accuracy
- Confidence editing on deadline and shepherding breaking news
- A knack for tapping into the cultural conversations of the moment
- Knowledge of Hollywood’s awards infrastructure and related story cycles
- Ability to write engaging headlines
- Knowledge of SEO best practices
- Ability to learn a content management system and build articles for publication
- Ability to communicate effectively while working remotely
- Appreciation for the ethical standards of a major news organization

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $45.35 to $60.61 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A.
