Job Description

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) https://slhs.phhp.ufl.edu/ at the University of Florida is recruiting up to two (2) Audiology faculty positions at the assistant or associate rank. These full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure or non-tenure track, 12-month positions are expected to start in Fall 2024. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in any area of audiology or hearing sciences. However, areas of research or clinical practice that emphasize psychoacoustics, cochlear implants, medical audiology, pediatric audiology, and/or hearing conservation are most desired.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service in a dynamic academic health center environment. The department is committed to hiring and supporting candidates who will contribute both collaboratively and independently to externally funded research. Tenure-track candidates will be principal investigators of extramurally funded research projects or demonstrate potential to develop such a record. Candidates will be expected to teach upper-division undergraduate and graduate level courses that support audiology and hearing sciences. Candidates will also engage in a range of service activities including student mentorship and participation on departmental and college committees.

UF SLHS: The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is one of eight departments in the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and is well integrated within the UF Health Science Center, thereby offering faculty a wealth of opportunities for scholarly collaborations. The department offers three degrees: Doctor of Audiology (AuD), Master of Art’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders (the degree program for speech-language pathology), and Bachelor of Health Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The College of PHHP also offers a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, which includes a concentration in Communication and Swallowing Sciences and Disorders. Faculty members have access to a college level instructional design team that provides them with expert support in course development and delivery.

Minimum Requirements

For non-tenure track hires – doctoral degree (AuD or PhD) in a relevant field, possession of or eligible for the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) and licensed or license-eligible in Audiology for the state of Florida.

For tenure track hires – PhD in audiology, hearing sciences, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

For hires on the non-tenure clinical/teaching track, an AuD is preferred. Ideal candidates will have an AuD and EdD or PhD in audiology, hearing sciences, or a closely related field. A minimum of three years of full-time experience with clinical service in audiology preferred. For hire at the clinical associate professor level, a strong record of accomplishments in teaching and service is essential.

For hires on the tenure track, an AuD and PhD in audiology, hearing sciences, or a closely related field, and possession of or eligibility for the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is preferred. For hire at the associate professor level, a strong track record of extramural grant funding is essential. Hire at the assistant professor level should demonstrate potential to develop such a record.

All candidates should possess strong interpersonal and organization skills and effective written and oral communication skills is essential.
